Rubber strip

Post by Captain Dave »

Any ideas on how to restore and maintain the rub strip. I'm talking about the rubber bumper around perimeter of boat. It looks really faded and dull compared to the rest of the boat.

you might try a search - there was a lot of discussion about restoring the finish and trim lately and I suppose that some one mentioned the use of amorall(sp?) and discussed the pros and cons, but I would think that anything you use on your car tires to make them shine would work on the bumper strip.

I use STP's Son of a Gun, which brings it back to life. If it's beat up, and torn it's a fairly easy replacement as you can get it from Blue Water Yachts. About 50 ft. and 2 tubes of 4200 does an X and you can replace it over a weekend (easier if you take 2 warm sunny days).

I have been using Simonize wet look tire conditioner since the day I bought my 2003M. It has kept the rub rail in decent shape and prolonged the life of it. 8)

I bought some Mothers Back to Black for the trim on our cars just last weekend. The rub rail on our M is not that bad but it does make it look like new.
