Flat tires - consequences...

Post by J.Teixeira »

Hi

Can someone tell about personal experience in flat or exploding tires wile trailering a Mac?

Did anyone suffered serious consequences on flat or exploding tires wile trailering a Mac?

How does such a big trailer reacts?

Is it difficult to control with a flat tire?

(I am talking about the trailer tires only...)

Thank You

Jose

Mi last experience with hot tires was very stressing ...

I had a tire go flat at 110 km/hr (close to 70 mph) and although it happened suddenly I'm not sure it was a 'blowout'. Trailer continued to follow me very well buy thr flap, flap, falpping sound got my attention. I found the biggest risk was in changing the tire on the side of the road, not the actual flat. I have since purchased a quick change trailer jack like this (http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0001881011032a.shtml)

I also check the tire pressure in my spare before starting out as my spare was a bit low when I had the flat.

i had a flat tire on my X trailer in 2006. original '02 TITAN trailer tires.
the tire separated while i was traveling at 60mph.
i did not lose control and pulled over to side.
however, the rim was destroyed and the fender damaged beyond repair.
finally, i was not able to change spare myself (needed AAA to assist).

lesson learned...
- always carry two 4000# hydraulic jacks. don't depend on standard auto jack in your trunk
- carry good supply of tools
- after several years replace your tires and check your , especially when planning a long road trip

Havent had it happen on the big rig..I suspect if you stay off the brake and coast to a stop it is pretty uneventful.
