Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
This AP picture appeared on a Yahoo/AT&T site with coverage of Hurricane Ike. As best as I can tell, it looks like a Mac X. I feel sorry for the owner and hope that it is not someone on this board.

Re: Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
Downloaded the picture and tried to zoom in to read the name but the picture is a little too fuzzy for me to read. But it doesn't look like "Holub Boat"
Looks like the mast and forestay are okay. Seems like the starboard spreader is hanging loose but the port side looks okay. Boom, topping lift and backstay look to be okay.
No engine...
And the rudders look like they will be toast.
It might be recoverable...
Hopefully there are no holes in the hull. It is still floating after all.

Ouch!! boy i hope who ever it is has insurance, sheeshhh
looks to me like there's a merc hangin off the back and since i'm disagreeing with you c130 it also looks to me like the water has receded out quite a bit and the baot is actually grounded, so who knows, maybe some holes
like you cannot make out the name of her tho.

Re: Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
You are correct. I did not see the Merc at first. And you may be right about the water...I was thinking that all those boards were floating up against the wall...but now I am not so sure.

Re: Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
The name appears to begin with the word Flyin' or Playin' ...
don't recall that among our members, but can't say I usually take much notice, anyhow.
It might be okay at the stern, might not. It sure appears that motor is too distant from the transom. If it IS still attached to the boat, I'd expect that outboard is placing a lot of strain on the transom. Does it appear to anyone else that the hull is is open near the motor mounting?
If she spent a couple of hours afloat among all that particular flotsam, maybe not so bad. But if she was lifting and dropping, in constant surge, hammering the motor skeg & prop onto the beach, I'd be studying the transom very closely. Overall, I fear that a better photo might obviate the need for any close study, at all.

I think they moved the pic in the link below, but is this the photo you were talking about?

You are correct, Kevin. The slideshow changed. Those two macs in your photo are neither the earlier photo.
It showed the stb-aft quarter of a different 26X, resting alone, amidst jetsom.
The photo we saw earlier is nowhere among the 170 pictures now in the slideshow.

My bad ... guess it IS the same boat. However, it sure seemed the earlier photo had better resolution than posted just above?? Just guessing that MadMax found one at lower resolution than was earlier available. If we found the original picture post #1, we might even diagnose that poor hull's ailments!
Strangely enough, at the time I posted above (6:30) there were 170 photos on that website, now only 154??
Maybe they're being pared-down as folks object to being 'published?'

Re: Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
From Kevin's zoom, it looks like the name may be "Playin' Hooky" but that is a WAG. Also, agreeing with Frank that the port side of the stern may be missing. Hurricanes do a number on wet slipped boats. Boats are tied to the docks, not the pilings and the dock's don't very often survive the surge and the pull of all those boats.

To me it looks like the Mac is floating on wooden debree and water from the photo of the guy picking up an the orenge PFD up at the edge of the water with floating wood.

Re: Looks like Ike got someone's Mac
I just learned my Mac-X survived the storm, and is sitting secure, safe, and tied within the Marina. The piers and docks are several feet below the water line, and tops of pilings are visible, and tie-offs on the risers are visible. Whewwww! There were some serious boat damages throughout this area -- mostly from the aweful tidal surge.
A special thanks to Greg and Ann for checking on my boat, during their observations in the Marina while checking on their Mac-X (which also survived well also) !
The Mac-X shown in the pic above is "Playing Hookey", and is kept a neighboring Marina nearby. I dont think it has any serious damage, and simply broke loose and settled on a nearby elevation site.
The area is a real mess ! This is going to be one, serious, major, costly, clean-up.

Glad that you and your boat made it through, Louis. Our prayers were with you and everyone in Ike's path.
