Haven't seen her since July 7, 2007. Will "unwrap" her this Christmas for about 10 days of sailing in Jacksonville... :D :) 8) .
Was thinking of keeping my boat in florida during the winter . Is the weather nice during the winter or should i go farther down or should I go to the west side of Florida? These are the questions I am asking myself.

I think the winter time weather in Jacksonville is perfect. It rarely gets below 50...

But for a Quebecian I would think you go skinny-dipping in 50...not that I want to see that... :P

Hello KELLY HANSON EAST: we approach our slip at 1200rpm, staying approx. 4-5ft away from the slipped boats. I keep the stbd rudder down for quick turning. I'm still learning the proper distance, but about one boat length from our slip, it is hard over to stbd, engine in neutral; the ADMIRAL is on the bow with a boathook to make me look good. when we are almost parallel with the slip, I reverse the engine, slightly to stbd to stop fwd motion, then into neutral to assess our position. then it is with quick reverse bursts, port, stbd, amidships with the motor, which ever way is necessary, we back into the slip. the orders are to tie up to stbd first, then port bow, port qtr, stbd spring line. the motor is always in neutral/idle until the ADMIRAL and I decide we are secure, then our shutting down checklist comes into play. yesterday, "THE RESTLESS TWO" did bump once, but no damage, the rub rail doing its job. the motor makes it fairly easy, and without its articulation, would probably have a much more difficult time 8) 8) 8) we do assess the winds, and if it is from the port side, I add 100rpm and a slight port crab. When I lived in south Florida the difference was - you hit pilings hard and the Dolphins hit the Jets, Bills and Patroits even harder. But that was a few years ago, and maybe custom and usage have come up with new meanings.....

This should sort you out.
Dolphins are independent marine structures for mooring ships. They consist of a group of timber piles bound at the top with cable or wire. The term dolphin also refers to any other structure that serves the same purpose.
Basically, the piling is the center part that allows mooring. Dolphins surround structures (like pilings, but not limited to pilings) and prevent damage to them.
