MAC BUMP MOD
I am just fitting a roller below the front supports of my trailer [ 06
] and need the input of [ I think] Oskar, who posted a photo of his mod. It shows a red concave roller below the blocks. But with no adjustment apparent. Oskar, did this solve the problem or would the roller have to mounted a bit higher? thanks. Puggsy

Re: MAC BUMP MOD
Hi puggsy
This is the mod I have. Sorry I haven't got a close up pic of it with the boat on the trailer.

I got the idea from Paul S in the Mods section of this forum here:
26M trailer V-bunk Roller
The mod originally posted had an adjustable roller, but I couldn't buy one in Perth so I started with a simple a U bracket and roller from Martin's Trailer Parts. It was bolted to the frame as high as possible below the V bunk but was still a bit low so when other mods were done I got the trailer guy to adjust the mounting bracket so that it angles upwards a bit.
The roller makes winching the boat onto the trailer MUCH easier because it lifts the bow onto the bunk. But the boat does not actually sit on the roller during towing (I shared Paul S' concern that the weight might bend the spindle).
I still do the "bump", just to make sure the boat is firmly seated on the bunks.

Re: MAC BUMP MOD
Hi Oskar...,that's the one...Have you tested it yet as it seems well below the bunks when compared to the original mod....the photo in that one is a bit small, but the top of the roller seems nearly level with the bunks...In your mod, the roller seems well below. did you consider adjustment. My idea is to have it adjustable up and down...So that you bring the boat up onto the roller to get it into the "V" and when out of the water on level ground, then adjust it down so the boat is back on the bunks...I'm also adding an extra roller BELOW the black "V" that is a bit 'proud' when recovering then can be lowered out of the way. Cant do photos at the moment...my camera has packed up...what are your thoughts...Puggsy

Hi puggsy
The roller is below the level of the V bunk, but perhaps not as far as the camera angle in the pic implies. I'll try to get down to the boat tomorrow then post a few close up pics of the side view with the boat on the trailer.
Yes, I have tested the roller, and it works well, although I'm sure the simple design could be improved upon

Puggsy:
A couple of close-up pics of the V Bunk Roller I have. As you can see it is a fairly primitive device compared to Paul S' original mod. The pics show the few cm clearance between the roller and the hull once the boat is fully on the trailer. I might try to narrow this gap at some future time. Nonetheless the roller does a good job of lifting the bow and I can now winch the boat right up to the rubber bumper on the trailer post quite easily. The Mac bump is only used to ensure that the boat is firmly bedded against the rubber bumper before I attach a chain to supplement the winch strap during towing.

Re: MAC BUMP MOD
a few years later now, and it still is one of the most useful mods I have done. launching in lower tides, seeing the boat just ride down the roller instead of dragging on the back of the bunks...and not having the vbunk boards keep breaking off during recover..is wonderful.
