March you are probably write
It would be nice to have Roger's opinion in the matter.
As a designer of a fine boat he is forced to balance his construction for most users. For example: Roger suggests 50hp engine. Many of Mac users have installed bigger engines. Who was the first? There was no law for It?
Generally, a lot of modifications of enthusiastic users have improved products (cars, boats airplanes) So I pass the impolite replies, there is no law or a competition for who is more devoted sailor or who loves his boat the most.

Your reply makes a lot of sense. The only think I have to say is that of course I expect to affect performance: a little bit worst steering while sailing and a little bit better steering while motoring until 10 knts. Also in such lite boat almost everything affects the center of resistance.
Anyway If I can afford the modification I will do it and we will see what will happen.
Thank you all.

The metal in the Steering system will not take the prolonged stress of motoring . Sure your honda civic can run 125 MPH and you may get 30K miles out of it at that speed but if you ran it at 65 MPH you will get well over 100K miles . Thats what I am saying about the rack and pinion. It is not made to counter the forces imposed by the rudder when going 10 KNOTS. It is too much

While you are waiting to do this mod, you might want to read some of the posts regarding rudders, stearing linkage and slow speed motoring. You might find some additional information to base your decision upon. I believe that you would have more succes adding a keel than modifing the rudders. I am not sure what model you have It might be easier to do this on an X than an M and you do not say if you trailer or not.
