12 us gal. fuel tank

Post by Finn »

I need to buy a new 12 gal. fuel tank for my 2007M. The Moeller fuel tanks are too tall (11 1/2") - I believe that I have maximum 10 1/2" clearance under the seats in the cockpit. I'm unable to locate the Tempo LPT12 model. Does anyone have suggestions where that fuel tank can be obtained - or if a different model from a different company will fit as well?
A while back - when the mods pages were still up - I read about someone who had placed two 6 gal. fuel tanks side-by-side in the same space. I cannot find any such fuel tanks where I shop. I would like to have thant information as well if possible.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Finn,

Did you try doing a search under fuel tanks, or something similar? This was a discussion that was had in detail. I don't find doing searches to be quick, but if you spend the time, it can pay off.

I also remember about two six gallon tanks. Try doing a search.

Ray

P.S.I just went and checked on the name of the tanks on Nice Aft, and they are Tempo. I did a search of "tempo" and came up with this FINN, CLICK HERE! You can try the same. Do a search for tempo.

I do not believe they make the Tempo 12 gallons any more. From what I remember from the old post the best option was to use the six gallon tanks

Matt,

Tempo is not made anymore, but in order to find the info on the replacements which are being used by some of our members, the search should be done for "tempo". When you do (as in clicking where my original post stated "click here") it will be shown that Defender sold a replacement. Finn needs to do this so he (maybe she? I don't know!) can see the info.

The post that I remember went on into detail about the 2 6 gal tempo's and how you had to modify the attachments etc. It was specific to the X but may have worked on the M. Frank's remarks I believed had the most specifics. Tempo is no longer producing and their molds were sold to some other company. The Marina Del Ray dealer wrote about this and may have made a suggestion or two. You could search on franks posts or MikeMs for more details. Unless you are going to be doing extended cruising - 2 6 gal tanks should do fine, or even one with a spare jerry can. I do not like giving up the storage under the seats to carry excess gas....that thought lead off in a foul direction...anyway, and the other point I wanted to make was that 12 gal tanks are hard to carry full if you have to portage to the gas pump.

Thank you for all your help with this. I did locate a low profile 12 gal gas tank on the Tempo site, but I cannot find anyone who is selling them. Perhaps because they a no longer available.
I like your suggestions about 6 gal tanks and since I have only an 8 hp motor, perhaps I just get one of those instead.
I'll try to conduct a search on this site using your suggested names.
Thanks again,
Finn

6 Gal

Post by pokerrick1 »

You guys have it handled. Tempo does not make the 12 gallon tank anymore. Finn, if you only have 8 HP motor I agree that one 6 gallon is probably your best option for that side.

At least for the X, there were about 3 different choices of tanks for the 2 - 6 gallon idea . I bought mine at Bass Pro shop I think. I saw another of the options at Boater's world.

Most of these 6 gallon tanks are pretty cheap. I am not real ahppy with the quality of the ones I got, so just a word of caution to try and look them over first.

Probably Duanne Dunn was one of the first to do this.

By the way, I bought what was called a Tempo gas 9 or 12 but in truth it only held about 7.5 gallons. Bad label or something.

Thank you for all your help finding the 12 gal. tank. They had only one left in stock and it is now on its way here. Perhaps I'll upgradethe motor some day later.

They are still available here but if you blokes think you are being gouged ours are $139 AUS and our dollar buys 94 c US and that is the normal price.
There are some 40l stainless tanks which are the best fix I have seen for the :macm: at least but they are $299 AUS disc but RR $422
