Under Cabinet LCD TV/DVD/stereo installed on 26M

Post by paj637 »

Just installed an Audivox 12" LCD TV/DVD/Stereo in my 2006 :macm: Put in in the overhead above the forward dinette seat. Only 4 scew holes, easy install. Great picture with broadcast HDTV. Bought a $10 antenna at BestBuy that works great. I'm a good 25 miles from any broadcast tower. Digitial signal for the HDTV is a vast imrovement over analog broadcasts. Waiting to see how it is affected by anchor swing. The unit draws 40 watts max, I opened up the case to see if I could straight wire it to the battery but no joy. I run it off a 75 watt inverter plugged into a 12v extension cable. The TV unit cost about 200 bucks. Overall, the most economical on power and biggest screen. Just right for my :macm: !

Will do as soon as I can figure how to post a pic. It'll be my first one. :)

Hey paj,
How about the model number for that Audivox and what speakers did you use? I would like to google the unit to see a pic, might be what I am looking for to mount in the very same place. 8)

Here's the TV/DVD we use (also an Audiovox purchased on eBay)... it works on 120 or 12 volts and it came with wireless headphones so we can watch silently when the kids are racked-out in the aft berth. It also came with a sling to hold it in the car for travel... so it can be used in the boat, the house and the car... very useful unit.

When not on the boat or in the car, it lives in our bathroom where I designed a wall mount for it... we use it to watch movies while the Admrial and I take a nice whirlpool bath with a glass of wine.... not a bad way to spend an evening, gents. Also handy for catching up on the news, weather and traffic while performing the morning ablutions before work.

:D :D Thanks, Steph - I'm just a hacker, but I do try to pay attention to the details. I'm pretty pleased how my design for the bath cabinets turned out. The cherry wood adds such a warm glow to the room, and we were going for an art nouveau / arts & crafts look, so I think we got close to that. Jana designed the tile work and used splashes of custom nouveau tiles (you can see one on the tub) and I think the whole look hangs together fairly well. There's also a matching floor-to-ceiling built-in armoire out in the hall as well...

But actually, my latest project is in *tile*. I haven't done tile in a great many years, but we needed to alter our fireplace down in the basement in order to match the rennovations we're doing, so that's underway presently... not much applicability to boating though!

BTW, this has *absolutely* nothing to do with this topic, but I thought I'd throw it in (although, perhaps it would look great in the Mac head or next to the Mac's galley sink?)... anyway, just in case any of you blokes are looking for something lovely for your Admiral for an upcoming gift-giving occasion, this is a winner for sure....

One of the things we added to the renovated bath was a really beautiful soap holder... yeah, I know, that's kind of silly... but it really added a lot to the room, plus it keeps the soap from getting all yucky in the dish, while adding a real piece of art to the room. Noveletti makes a wonderful series of these holders, and we chose the Hummingbird:

(You can see it at the edge of our sink in the pic in this post, above.)

Paj637:
So I found it (the AudioVox) on Amazon and read a few reviews, sounds like a decent unit but there was mention of no external audio jacks so one has to accept the units' internal speaker sound. For TV this is fine but how do you like the sound when playing CDs or radio, is it good or would you prefer that it could be boosted with an external sound unit?
