I did the numbers on my Mac 26X and it qualifies for documentation.

Ultimately I couldn't see the benefit in documenting a boat that will never be taken farther than the near Caribean islands, where a valid U.S. State registration is acceptable.

New Jersey didn't require reg numbers on the hull. It's optional. However, documentation did have Federal rules like the doc number permanently affixed to the hull and name and home port displayed.

It's been such a long time and I'm sure it's changed now, but as I remember, having a documented vessel gave you some kind of Federal rights. Something like if a foreign government attempted to seize your vessel, the US government would defend you. And of course those pesky bow letters weren't required.

I checked on documenting my 2006

and the numbers are really close. It depends on how you call the measurements. I called the Macgregor factory and asked if the M qualified to meet the minumum size to be documented and was told "no". I forgot who I spoke with but they relayed that they get several calls a year and their "official" response is that the M does not meet the requirements for vessel documentation. But I bet you could slip it by if you wanted to, kinda like that "iffy" deduction on your taxes.

Since everyone is posting picutres I thought I would jump on the boat (so to speak) as well.

Its a very good picture. And the boat looks good as well...

Got my lettering from BoatUS. Very easy to install. Once it is all soapy and wet you can slide it around very easily.

I think for the two decals (one on each side) I paid $88. Knowing my luck they are half that price at these other places the other folks have used.

I wish now, that I had placed the decals a little further aft.

I went to the Cleveland boat show yesterday. I finally got the boat name ordered. As I am from G.B I named the boat AlbionII. Which means Great Britain. The font is Olde English. Black with matalic Gold outline in 7 inch letters. They did the port and state for free.Cost was $138.00. To cold to put it on at the moment,but when I do I will post pictures.Still no Macs at the show but when I get too old to sail I saw a nice Trophy walkaround for about the price of a Mac.

Cool online design feature you can spend hours on to get yours right.
Clear instructions and easy "all-in-one piece" installation.
1 1/2 years later, still in perfect condition.
No affiliation etc., etc., just a happy satisified customer.

I'm a big fan of the online tools to see it before you print it (and pay for it).

Now to come up with a name.

If you try the speedysign link above, the online design feature will automatically calculate the lenght/height proportion for you. You just enter 7" height (in your case) and the length will be determined. Of course, you can control both dims if you want to, it just might not end up in the correct proportion.
Even if you have another source for lettering, this tool could help you visualize your ideas.

comes out to 48inches long. I guess thats okay on a 26 foot boat. Thanks again for the response.

The "Nextboat" name is exactly 42" from the bottom left leg of the "N" to the end of the cross on the "t".

Bleu Marin comes to 48'' and has an extra space and letter so i will go for this at around 34$ a piece. Sounds like a reasonable price. Next thing I have to figure out is how to take the old name off.
