Duane,

I'm so envious of your trip. I just have to make it up that way. Gorgeous scenery, and seems like the trip was tailor made for a Mac. I'll agree with Mark P, I have to get that Dowsar enclosure.

I'm very glad you were able to share your experience with us.

Wow, Duane... I just couldn't stop reading that. Great pictures too. Thanks for taking all the time to put that together!

I just finished proof reading, that was painful. Should serve me right for posting things written at 4 in the morning. It should be easier to read now.

Hi Duane:
We just returned from the gulf islands this evening. It was fun meeting you and your family at last. We only got as far as Silva Bay but managed to sail the Strait of Georgia in 25+ knots of wind. Waves got as high as the bowrail and I was impressed with the way our X handled it. Took us from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm to make it to Friday Harbor (52 mi. as the crow flies) beating most of the time. I had to cheat with the motor when we were making zero progress south. Too much leeway with waves pushing us northwest. We had 5 great sailing days during our 10 day trip. One we stayed on the same tack for the entire time. We sailed by a pod of Orcas twice and had dahls porpoises playing in our bow wave a few times too.
Did you sample the Bat Brains?
Anyway, glad you all had fun, we did too, see you out there next time.

Nice trip! What kind of VCR/TV screen do you have? Did you run a generator for this or 12volt?

We watched all the DVD movies on my laptop computer. It has a 15" WXGA wide screen which works well for movies. I use an FM modulator to put the audio through the stereo/CD player and it turns the boat into a nice little floating theater. It is plugged into shore power if we are at the dock or our small 125 watt inverter under way. The load is surprisingly low playing the movies. Booting the load often touches 10 amps, but once windows is up and the movie is playing the load is only .4 amps on our link 10 meter.

I should have the revised mod section up with all the new stuff we did in a day or two. I just have to get the last pictures taken.

I just finished all the text revisions for the trip story. The initial posting was just the rather brief notes in our log book. Now the full flavor of the trip has been filled in. If you looked early on you might want to visit again and hit the refresh button and you'll find a lot more info about the trip at the site.

Tomorrow I'll be posting a details for boating geeks page which will talk about mods that made the trip possible and other boating details of the trip. I'll have the storage page up soon as well which will show how we pulled off the miracle of fitting the ton of stuff we took in the boat.

There's also a journal with my wifes point of view coming as well as some pages from my kids logbooks

I'm doing your galley mod now right down to odering Sunbrella from Sailrite.

Unbelievable. I ordered from Sailrite over the weekend and it is here today, Tuesday by UPS. I bought seconds but the material seems perfect.

If anyone is wondering what mod I'm talking about, this is a simple mod that almost anyone can do. It adds an incredible amount of storage. :o
