Here's a link to the complete set of interior pictures buried in the site.
The New 2005 M Interior
Here are the line drawings
Unlike the previous version, this looks like it could actually work with a family like mine.

I just wish they made a 30-footer. I would gladly give up the trailerability for a bit more space, and I don't necessarily want to spend an arm and a leg to get it.piratecliff wrote:Very nice! They've addressed some of the issues I didn't care for about the M, but hey, it's all good. Their isn't one model of these boats I wouldn't gladly own.

That is a major improvement of the interior IMHO. Same set up as my old Mac25 but bigger and nicer. Now my only issue with the "M" is the shallower, narrower cockpit. I suppose the less bulky steering pedestal makes up for some of the lost cockpit space. Thats where we spend most of our time. Very impressive overall!

nice touches
Wow, I am impressed. I have a 2003 M, my first boat and I like it a lot (I had better)!. Re: the 2005 M: The galley arrangement looks great (I wonder about the sink plumbing though). THe starboard table/bunk setup also looks neat. I think that the lowered mast support now is improved from the single 'pipe' mounted on the pedestal that the 2003 M's had (kinda shakey, IMHO). The window (porthole?) treatments look awesome-I'd love to incorporate that on my 2003 M.
All in all, Mr. MacGregor seems to be improving his offerings AND listening to someone!
As Martha used to say: "It's a good thing".

I really like the interior look (due to the added wood trim). Don't suppose anyone knows if the windows are the same size on an X so I don't have to measure and "rebuild the wheel" so to speak. Course, it might be fun to have the kids trace the windows and then cut the window trim out of cherry or walnut. Wonder if someone makes a kit. Just thinking online.

Each has it's points
As a person who single-hands 99% of the time, I don't really want the table permanently in the cabin, so I prefer my 2004 layout as far as the starboard side interior. In my 2004 model, I can easily seat 8 people in the cabin in a lounge setting - for instance during the 4th of July dock party, etc.
On the other hand - I do like the sliding galley on the port side of the new model - I wouldn't mind having that and just having storage or a chart table aft of the head where my galley is now. The water lines for a pressurized water system seem like they could be an issue for the mobile sink, though.
So for me, the ideal solution would be a mix of the old and new...
Once again - every boat is a compromise!!

Clearly MacGregor is responding to all the requests for a more X like interior. For me the new interior has two problems:
1. The table is too small for 4 people to eat at. Great for cards or cocktails, but a little small otherwise.
2. The new galley will not allow a Wallas stove to be installed since the stove must vent to the outside. I moved the galley back and forth--It is very smooth and easy to move, but I didn't look inside to see how the sink drains.
In truth the old interior has a few problems as well. I was hoping MacGregor would offer both so folks could pay their money and take their choice, but since the web site now shows only the new interior I am assuming that it is the only one available in the future.

I agree, I really like the changes. The window trim, and upholostry on the cushions looks great. I do believe I still like my '99 X's table a little better w/ the place for my local lake map, and seating for 4 (looks like 2 on the new M). All in all, great changes, and I echo the idea of bumping up the size to 30'. Could you still trailer it w/o a permit at 30' if the width didn't change?

I concur. Jeepers! I REALLY like it. This new interior should significantly increase sales. I could see doing a family camping/sailing expedition with that interior. I could even live with that small table. I like the wood trim touch around the windows.mike wrote:I have to admit, if this model were available 9 months ago, the decision of "new M vs. used X" would have been MUCH more difficult.
It's encouraging to see MacGregor apparently taking customers' suggestions seriously. Good work, Roger!

I wonder how hard it would be to replace or clean the carpet on the walls if grease splattered there while cooking? Oops the heat was a little too high cooking that extra fatty bacon.

Now all they need a popup dagger board for the shallows!
