Trailer Problem! (2500 mi from home)
We have spent the last month trailering our newly purchased 26x from Seattle all over the country on our way back to Mazatlan Mexico. We are currently in Kemah, Texas and just discovered a large crack on the trailer. It is right behind where the brake sleeve is. I had a professional look at it and he said that their shop would not even repair it due to liability. This area is a big boating area, however I can't seem to find any Mac dealers. I am willing to buy a new trailer, does anyone know if there is another manufacture who's trailer will work? Or have any other suggestions? Mazatlan is still some distance to travel and want to ensure that our Mac that we love travels safely.

When I was looking to mount a spare tire on our trailer I first thought of having a plate welded on. I was told they don't weld things on the tongue because it might take the temper out of the steel and weaken the tongue. Thus, spares are attached with bolt on mounts. That having been said, there are lots of savvy welders around, who are great at keeping older machines and equipment going. There must be a way for one of them to reinforce things enough to get you home.

Without a picture I can only speculate, but if you do not find a welder, head over to HD and buy some heavy angle iron and bolts, you can fabricate a box around the crack so long as you have enough space on either side to attach the angle. I would clamp the angle iron to the sides with u bolts and then through drill.

Here is the phone number in Khema to another trailer builder but he is kind of finiky and may help you and may not but you can try. 281-844-4458, they specailize in sailboat trailers.
I doubt Lance can help you over at Sail Venture I haven't had luck in dealing with him on trailers in the past but he is a Mac dealer, and a very nice guy and knows the area and may also be able to put you on a welding shop near there. Here's Lance's cell - 713-294-9559.
Once you get everything on the trailer fixed up suggest you take 35 over to Palacios and put in at Turning basin 3 at the boat ramp there and sail West Matagorda bay. I'll probably be down there Staturday working on my trailer (a Coinsidence). You can email me and I'll give you my cell if you're coming down. JonBill1@yahoo.com.
Kind Regards,
JonBill
