From experience with my Cal 27, you just can hope that your mast goes over the side if it happens (usually it does). You have not more than 3 seconds in 15kt breeze to lay flat.

I am sailing since 27 years in the Caribbean, 2 of them on a 2004 M and I can definitely tell you that the Macs are no blue water boats. Living down here (PR) allows me to go sailing when conditions are acceptable for the Mac (2' to 4' seas and up 10 to 15knt winds). I moved my boat over to a marina...

I received my 2004 M in April of 04 in a container directly from Sharp Marine in California with all available options installed in perfect condition, it even was polished (they forgot to install the ordered disc brakes but send me after an additional axel including brakes for $300) . Since then I d...

Hi Rich, installed the Sport Pilot Plus two weeks ago and tried it out Saturday and Sunday. Saturday only motoring around at different speeds and sea conditions, worked perfect in seas up to 5 feet and 20 knot winds. Sunday, sailed about 6 hours straight from almost calm conditions to 4 foot chop an...

I made a Polypropilene washer out of an empty Adobo spice bottle. It worked fine for the last 6 months. PP is a very tuff but flexible plastic material.

With my Cal 27,which I bought 24 years ago, we used to cruise the Virgnin Island almost every summer. Maps and GPS maps for this area are very acurate. However during high season there are hudreds of sailboats all over the VI with many skippers not familiar to the islands nor their boats. So things ...

Sailing M to the US Virgin Islands

After this year's hurricane season is (almost) over (beginning of Nov.) I'll sail (motor) my M to St. John in the USVI. Was there last weekend to make arrangements for a slip at Red Hook's Marina in St. Thomas. I plan to keep the boat there till high season starts, around December 20, going forth an...

Hi everyone,

don't you guys think that the main problem is not the weight or length of the board but the moment applied to the dagger board box, once the boat is heeling.
I believe the way the box is made it would break in an instant and sink the boat.

As in PR Honda only sells engines if they are installed by the dealer under Honda factory specs, they also do the gas plumbing which is included in their package. They installed next to each 12 gal. tank a gas filter and water separator with individual sets of hoses all connected with Hasko quick co...

Mast-Up Boat Cover

I am still looking for this heavy duty mast-up boat cover for my M.
Saw it once some years ago on this forum but never could find it again.

Any help or ideas are apreciated.

In PR most commercial boat operators use the Hondas, because of their reliability, on their sailing and power cats eventhough the outboard is approx. 25% more expensive (down here) than the competition.
I am very happy with mine and parts and service is readily available.

It's a spring loaded device, very simple to use and shroud length doesn't alter the readings. Mine is from West Marine. Make sure that you buy it for the right shroud diameter.

No mast rotation problems at all, also have main halyard and single line reef led back to the cockpit.
Your minimum tension on the M should be no less than 180lb on lower and 200lb on upper shrouds.
