Re: Stiff Steering on 2002 26X

Most marine stores carry them. I can't recall if I replaced with the 8 or 10' but I do recall having to mod the binacle (move the hole slightly to accomodate a slightly larger rack. It was a small PITA as a hole saw doesn't work to move the hole. Rasps and using the middle of the largest twist bit w...

Re: Trailer MOD

The 5th pin is sometimes use as the connection between you tow vehicle's back up lights and your trailer brake lock out. If you coupler supports this it would save you from having to put a pin in everytime you wanted to back up and not activate the brakes and lock up the wheels.

Re: Marina AC draw

The conclusion... The bill came in last week. $186.02. The Admiral called the marina and after significant discussions (sanitized for this family-oriented site) they agreed to look into it. They were stead fast that the meter is read every month and the readings were accurate. The next day they call...

Marina AC draw

The Base billing office called to say they think something is wrong. My normal slip electricty bill is $16/mo and that includes a $5/mo. min. charge. So what am I getting for $11/mo? I'm running a humidity dryer, hand held VHF charger, and the battery charger/maintainer. The billing office said this...

Re: Bill's EZ Cleats

As I mentioned, with the new cleats I no longer have the blocks in the extreme forward hole on the Genoa track any more. I use a RF Genoa and I opt to place the EZ cleat along the Genoa track so that it is more useful to me as a solo sailor vice the best sail shape. I'm not looking beat the few othe...

Re: Bill's EZ Cleats

I like the new beefier design however...
With the old EZs I ran the sheets through a block on the coaming track. With the new design (fixed angle feed path), using the block has the sheets entering the new EZs at an angle and is more difficult to use.

Re: Disconnect Trailer Brakes For X Trailer ??

Just got my trailer back from the shop. The brakes never worked. The surge coupler had rust inside, the lines were fouled, and the wheel cylinders were trashed. Got a complete replacement with disks, lines, new coupler and re-grounded the lights for $700. Spent Saturday spot sanding and painting. Lo...

Re: Back-up Camera System

I've been looking at the VR3 at Wally World (Walmart). I have a topper on my F150 and though I might mount the cam higher, looking down. It might give a better depth perception. Does anyone know if the cam can relocated? Is the feed to the monitor wireless? I'd like to move the cam to the back of th...

Re: Shore Power Amp Service?

I also used the 15A Male Plug. To make installation easier, I replaced the knockout plug for the port stern rudder cleat. Adds a little more weather protection when the cord is plugged in.

NiceAft, I would also back down the row of slips as it would certainly be easier (I back into slip also). However, at low tide the CB has grounded a couple of times when making the 2-pt turn into the slip. Going forward is no biggie as the CB justs pivots back (Advantage over the M?). Backing on a g...

I enjoy doing most of these myself (as well as all of the great mod ideas here). But prepare for the occasional Oh S&!#. I went to a marine repair shop while in CA and asked for a Merc 50 Big Foot impeller. This Spring I followed the manual I also picked up and took off the lower unit only to di...

Since you are driving as far as you are you might want to try Aquia. Not many and most are behind a bridge. Try www.activecaptain.com as a resource.

Mid ship cleat

Anyone use a jib track mounted mid ship cleat? I'm concerned the cabin top is too high compared to the bow/stern cleats and would tend to heel the boat vice keep it stationary in a narrow slip.
