Re: Follow jessica around the world
last night, Jessica passed over the namesake of my boat, Point Nemo. Known for being the spot on the ocean farthest from any land mass. Googled the location: The oceanic pole of inaccessibility (48°52.6′S 123°23.6′W / 48.8767°S 123.3933°W / -48.8767; -123.3933 (Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility)),...

Re: How to use whisker pole?
Bubba,
How long is your boat hook pole? I have one but it's likely too short for a whisker too - it's only 8' long fully extended. thanks

Re: How to use whisker pole?
In the Mods section, Richard Plumb suggests mounting the mast ring 41" up from base. That's on an X.
What is the recommended height of the Mast Ring, from base, on an M? Same?
I plan to make a Whisker pole - is 6' - 12' enough for a 100% jib?
thanks

Re: Nice day sailing in Columbia River
Wow, Bubba, 100 days of skiiing (I presume in one year..) You must have worked at a resort. I've been up to Meadows once this year so far (not counting last season). Anyway, it really wasn't that cold out sailing saturday - but the temps have dropped a lot since then, and the winds have picked up. I...

Nice day sailing in Columbia River
Yesterday was a beautiful day in the Columbia River gorge, just east of Portland Oregon. Took a friend out who's never sailed, but is building a 12' sailing dinghy so he was quite motivated to learn as much as possible (terminology, etc.). It was near dead calm with beautiful sunshine (high 30s) whe...

Re: Where do you store second anchor?
The Claw lives on the bow roller with 150' total of chain/rode in the locker. Also in the same locker we keep a Danforth with 150' chain/rode. It all fits, but barely. I wish the locker was a bit larger.

Re: Trouble w/Suzuki DF-50
I guess my problem was different, although symptoms seemed the same. Turns out I had a bad sparkplug - it's been deteriorating over time. A new set of plugs was all I ended up doing. No fuel/water separator as there's really not a good place to mount one. Had to take the boat out for a test drive th...

Re: Trouble w/Suzuki DF-50
My Suzuki DF70 has this same problem right now. It started out last year with an occasional miss only at full throttle and only for the first few minutes of running. Then it would clean up and run just fine for the rest of the day. Over time the miss would happen throughout the day, but only ocassio...

This has been very informative - thanks. The problem I'm looking for the best solution to is sailing up river (in the Columbia) when the wind is quite often heading parallel to and up river, so I'm running with the wind at <10 kts. I currently have a jib 100 on furler and have been debating between ...

Leon, Thanks much for the description, very creative. I can picture your runners - wow, so all this to tighten up the forestay, or luff, of the genny and as a side benefit ease the stress on the mast, not having a backstay when flying with genny alone.. So does she sail well like this? (without main...

NiceAft, Agreed. This is likely much ado about nothing, imo. I haven't been worried at all, really. It's others who posted that the genny could be an issue with the M. Since I'm considering buying a 150, versus a spinnaker, I wanted to chase this thread through a bit. I'm convinced there's no proble...

Hardcrab, exactly my thoughts (as I asked earlier) about the utility of topping lift and tightened mainsheet. My topping lift is not the strongest, it's the black (nylon?) stock line. I'm thinking though that in this case since I wouldn't be using the main, I could clip the main halyard to the back ...
