Re: Raise the goal? lowering/raising mast on water
I seem to raise and lower the mast singlehanded 80% of the time. After the 1st season, I came up with two little tricks. #1) I have a carwash mitt - extra fluffy that I stuff the CDI roller furler can into. It's perfect for protecting the gelcoat. #2) I always keep a roll of clear hockey tape in my ...

Cabin speakers in the bulkhead at V-berth. The speaker installation was actually pretty easy. Pulling the wires #%$##%^#! Cockpit: Sony 5" marine speakers. One is on the starboard side of the steering pedestal below the throttle lever. On the "X" this is mounted in a piece of smoked p...

Re: Winch Rant
I've changed my Mac trailer winch every few years. It's a consumable, like toner or brake pads. No big deal. The root cause, is the geometry of the thing. At the ramp, with the Mac completely forward into the rubber "Y" bowstop, there is of course still space between the hull and the rear ...

Re: Polishing the black around the windows
:macx: I just finished polishing up my '97X yesterday. The blacks look awesome especially the stripe under the rubrail and at the waterline. I think that was an exceptional factory gelcoat mix. The toughest area is of course, the big RACOON EYES zone around the windows. Here's my recipe. #1 & 2 ...

Re: Mainsail Condition
Bob: I've toyed with the notion of adding a second sheet to leward. My slip neighbor - I think its old Pearson 25 or 27 - permanently uses two mainsheets to gunnels as his running rigging in a triangle configuration. One RED one GREEN. Tell me though, with the main on the pedestal and your additiona...

Re: How can the Mac 26X sail close hauled better?
Tremendous Graphic! Thanks for posting this Opie. Hundreds / maybe thousands of Mac skippers are collectively nodding in front of their computers! In addition to the rig tuning suggestions that are well documented, I would add; - add a boom vang. In light to medium winds, one person can hold the end...

Re: AmSteel Dyneema ok, but what is "BLUE" ?
I'm researching Amsteel as well - for the trailer winch.
Appears that "Blue" references a less slippery coating.
Here's a suppliers Catalog cut:

page 518 or search in your acrobat reader on "amsteel"

Re: Rigging Adjustment Tool
Definitely on the list to do this month. It also reminded me to reapply silicone caulking at the chainplates. (Who hasn't enjoyed the bliss that one can only get from sponging out the bilge after a good thunderstorm?) Would you caulk prior to retensioning, or after the rig is tuned? Hakuna Ma...

Re: daggerboard check
Great Advice It only takes a few moments to move the mast off to the side and untie a couple of knots, you might be surprised at what you see. There is also some scuffing of the trailing edge but it doesn't show up in a picture. This must be true of "M"s only I tried removing the centreboa...

Roger's boat is for sale
I for one, never imagined that I might covet one of these.
Certainly the 8' - 6" draft would demand a significant change in address.

I must stop now and mop up around my keyboard and mouse.

Earlier, I thought that this was a motorsailing term.

Bertrand: Your line "The shoot out at South Dade Marina 2 days ago was the culminating point and last deciding factor for a quick trip home." caught my attention. We launched at Tarpon Springs on March 7th and meandered down the west coast to Ft. Myers. There were 4-5 ft. waves forecast mo...

Re: Canada Bahamas predominant winds
Bertrand. Over the last week, in Punta Gorda winds have been between 5 and 15 knots. My research says that NE is the prevailing direction. Curiously, I could not detect any pattern from actual observations This forecast looks pretty representative. http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws?siteID=81...
