If you have enough slack in the cable, you could try putting a loop in the cable. This would change the angle of the cable to the motor. If your setup is similar to mine....you'll find the bolt to tighten the control arm on the other side of the throttle/gearshift control unit..the side that butts up against the plexiglass. In order to reach the nuts that fasten it, you have to remove the plexiglass on the other side of the steering ...
