Re: Early 26X has 2 ballast valves?
For what it is worth I have a 26X, hull#10 and it has only one fill/drain valve. The air vent is up in front under the V berth. That location is not very accessible and the newer mod would be much easier to access. A number of years ago I replaced the fill/drain valve with one from an RV parts shop ...

Re: Nissan 50HP stop running
I copied/pasted this in from my previous forum comment on Feb 8, 2010. Here's another possibility to consider. In brief make sure the oil injection is working. It comes from a painful (expensive) experience with my Tohatsu 50D. (same engine as Nissan) Your symptoms sound very similar to my experienc...

Re: Boat insurance in Alberta
The original question was posted some time ago but here`s my comment. I have State Farm coverage on my 1995 26X , valued at $22000. The premium is only $181.

Re: erratic tohatsu 50 2t
Here's another possibility to consider. In brief make sure the oil injection is working. It comes from a painful (expensive) experience with my Tohatsu 50D. Your symptoms sound very similar to my experience which resulted in an aborted trip and an engine rebuild. What caused the problem was an air-l...

Mailsail furling, CDI makes one. Opinions please.
I have been considering the CDI mainsail furling system for my 26X. It would certainly be easier that mailsail reefing, especially when sailing shorthanded. The system shown on their website, sailcdi.com, is similar to their foresail rig. I have the CDI foresail furler and I like it. Where I sail th...

LED anchor light
Here's another illumination on the topic: I just received my issue of "DIY boat owner" magazine in the mail and found an article on building a daylight-sensing LED anchor light. Not ABYC certified for sure, but it looks like a good winter season project. That magazine is worth checking out...

Major healing - "spill the main!"
The short answer is to "spill the main" quickly. That's how sailboarders stay on their boards. The first time as a passenger on a Mac26X I had the same experience with gusty wind and a full main and genoa flying. Scared the crap out of me, but I bought that boat later in the summer anyway....

Did you use the true expanding variety of foam? There are different kinds out there now. Some have very low expansion charateristics so they don't warp windows and things when you fill around them. I used the regular, full expanding, formulation. I suspect that expansion gets restricted by the mast...

Water accumulating in trailer guide posts.
I discover that both of the vertical guide posts on my trailer had a lot of water in them which was causing rust inside the pipes. The water came out as black as india ink when I drilled drain holes. Besides the rusting another hazard is that freezing could split the pipe.

Mast foam fill
Fun with foam-NOT. I attempted to fill my 26X's mast with "Great Stuff" and am happy to share my learnings. My reasons for doing that was to add bouyancy and to stop any wires inside mast from moving. I had added a VHF antenna cable and was concerned that it might rattle. Before foaming I ...

More wheels falling off (almost)
I too know what a loose wheel sounds like but it can only be heard if a window is open and you are making a tight turn. After driving for 2 hours I was making a pit stop and heard a strange clunking sound from "way back" behind me. Lucky for me there were two nuts still on the studs of one...

Removal of bow light from 26X?
I have a custom-made anchor roller ready to install but I have to remove the bow light to mount it. I can't figure out how to remove it. I have opened it up and can't see any fasteners that hold it in place. There seems to be no fasteners showing under the deck, only the wiring for the light. The li...

Re: Spreader Replacement
FYI, I replaced my 26X's spreaders last week. I'd bent one when I lost my grip on the mast while de-rigging the boat after retrieval. The stock spreaders are 1" x .065" aluminum, 44" in length. A local machine shop had this stuff in stock, in 6' lengths. I bought two 6 footers for a ...

Getting back to windows; I just replaced all of the windows on my '95 Mac-X. One front and at least one side window were leaking. I naively expected to remove the screws, gently remove the window, re-caulk it are replace the screws. Well, like a total bathroom renovation that started from dripping f...
