I have been employed by the government for several years. I have noticed that government agencies love to spend money allocated in their budget; they most certainly do not wish to turn money back in to their central agency. I have also noticed that they will do what they are supposed to do. If congr...

Regarding ethanol and methanol. Opinion only, no hard facts; I think it depends on what material the float in your carbureator is made and the needle valve assembly. Some materials degrade quickly when exposed to strong solvents such as ethanol and methanol.

Mike Thank you for sharing your adventure. My hope was to visit Horn Island with some friends this year. I have taken a ride with the Hunter Gulfport dealer, who is a very nice man, on boats larger than the Mac 26x. We became hung up on the keel on a sand bar. My wife agreed about the nicer accommad...

I moved the boat to Oklahoma during the last hurricane and am getting the house ready to rent out. What a bummer. Lots of intermittent good weather now. I will be happy to take a picture of my set up and post it when I get back to Oklahoma. I can't wait till I get it back in the water in a lake and ...

A cold chisel works. Another quick trick if it is not too tight; I have also used a pipe wrench to loosen the race. You may have to tap the pipe wrench jaws with a hammer to get it to bite. If it does not work, the cold chisel is the way to go.

I used a cheap fishfinder mounted as above after my first fishfinder, temp sensor and paddle wheel corroded away and was caught in the prop. When reversing, it tends not to work well because of the exhaust gas bubbles.

I don't check in that often, but it was sorely missed.

Thanks Heath.

ALX 357 The storm blew over, I pulled the GWK out of the water for the potential hurricane. On my last trip out to Ship Island, my trim tab fin fell off and chewed into my propellor. The cavitation plate is 1.5 inches below the hull. My boat was originally bought in Colorado and propped with a 11.25...

ALX357 I apologize for not checking the board more frequently. I have the classic 50 mercury. Under the loaded conditions you describe, with bottom paint, I get about 18-19mph in calm conditions per gps with no current at 5500 rpm. I believe that bottom paint is responsible for a 2mph reduction, but...

I have an aversion to knots because of wind gusts but this may be because of my experience on mountain lakes. I would suggest a wrap of tape, placing a colored thread, rubber band etc. to mark the sheet.

Dave

I have been waiting for someone to do what you have done. Great mod. Hope to hear more about the performance. Did you use any backup material inside the boat or just washers on the fiberglass?

Ellen You might try contacting the Anchorage. They are a dealer that is out of Thornton, Col. (north of Denver) and at the time of my purchase in 1997 had done a lot of work with prop selection, jetting size to get the max performance of a 50hp on a Mac at elevation and would probably know about the...

AlX357 Looking at my Clymer chart, starting serial number for the 50hp original model for 1994 was 0D279350. The starting serial number for 1995 was 0G117236. That indicates to me that your engine was either a 1994 or 1995 original model. The ignition system for serial number prior to 531301 is AD-C...

ALX357

If you gave me your model and serial number, I could take a look in my manual and see if your engine is similiar to mine. I know that when ordering parts, I must have the model and serial number because of some changes that happenned mid year.
