Re: Mac 26D - Windows, Lexan or Polycarbonate?
By OP: Never mind, I found my own answer. Per BWY: The Mac windows are Lexan (polycarbonate) with integral bronze-tint. Heat removal of scratches will not work... polish is required. Here from US Plastics: Repairing Hairline Scratches Scratches and minor abrasions may be minimized by using a mild au...

Mac 26D - Windows, Lexan or Polycarbonate?
Looking for ways to clean light scuff-sratches from my tinted windows. Found a great method (University of YouTube, link below), but apparently there is a difference between Lexan and Polycarbonate. Polycarbonate can be heat repaired... Lexan requires polishing. Does anyone know which material is us...

Poptop Hold-open + Deck Elect Connectors
It's fun knocking out all the little projects on my new (to me) Mac 26D. Finding the parts is sometimes challenging... thank goodness for this forum! Can someone please tell me where I can get the following items: 1. Poptop: On photo, see the hole at the mast-facing edge of the poptop? There must ha...

Re: Mac 26D - Bottom, Barrier Coat & Antifoul
Here is a link to my post about re-doing our bottom-job: https://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27626 ... We used Interprotect 2000E as a barrier coat, and I couldn't be happier with it.... four gallons would probably be better. It's been a couple of years since we did the job and s...

Re: Missing flotation styrofoam
Jumping into this thread late, but my 2-cents worth, a number of comments regarding foam: 1. The foam in these boats is definitely NOT fire treated... this is cheap open cell styrofoam, very flammable, will slowly absorb water. 2. If you get water in the area where the foam is stored, it will eventu...

Mac 26D - What are these thingamabobbits?
I'm starting work on the interior of my 26D... I have 75 of these plastic covers to replace, 2 sizes (3/4" and 1-1/2")... I have looked at bwyachts, Dowser, MacGregor Owners... can't find these things on these sites. Does anyone know where I may be able to purchase them? https://hosting.ph...

Re: Anchor for 26D, 14# or 22#
...The one time we came loose was during the late afternoon on lake Huron in a 50 mph wind in which the boat actually sailed past the anchor and pulled it over. It could not reset as the complete anchor was a ball of clay as big as the roll bar.... I know a lot of folks up the size of their anchor ...

Re: Mac 26D - Bottom, Barrier Coat & Antifoul
Ok, with regards to the barrier paint, four gal. is about right, assuming you are gaoing to puton 4-5 coats, alternating a light color with a dark color. Each coart will be less than a gallon. For the antifoul, same applies, but 1-2 coats is fine - and should last 4-5 years on a 50/50 freshwater bo...

If anyone is interested, I just got my boat back from the marina with my new bottom paint. They used Tie coat primer by Pettit. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/pettit-paint--tie-coat-primer--P0131179 and black pro-75 Trinidad by Pettit https://www.bottompaintstore.com/boat-bottom-paint-c-13523.html/...

Mac 26D - Bottom, Barrier Coat & Antifoul
I just picked up my '87 Mac 26D, cleaning now, going in the water for leak inspections, define bootstripe, and rig tuning next week. Afterward, out of the water and onto the stands for bottom protection. FYI, this boat was always in fresh water and always trailer stored... the gel coat is excellent ...

Re: Mac 26D - Dinghy on foredeck?
Thanks for the suggestions you guys. After much reading and thinking, I updated my OP with an inflatable 2-seat kayak. This may be a perfect solution for us... we both like to paddle and we are comfortable kayaking, plus this kayak gets good reviews for efficiency thru water. I've decided the Mac26 ...

I only have experience towing a fiberglass dinghy behind my X. Forward/downward slope of first large wake wave. Works fine... Hi Herschel, I'm on the Dinghy Hunt. You say you had a fiberglass dinghy, but now you've gone to an inflatable. That's great experience... if you could get any dinghy you wa...
