Re: Great names for your boat 2026
When we did our mini-triangle loop tour this summer we were behind a large cabin cruiser who was doing a Great Loop. The boat name was "Job Site", so the owner could then say "I'm on the Job Site" on the phone and not be lying. Funny story, one of their bilge pumps engaged and d...

Re: Great names for your boat 2026
I am ashamed to say my boat is still nameless. I have been waiting for something to really appeal before committing to painting it on the sides of my Mac 26M. That said, my wife likes "Selkie" as is a Celtic word for some sort of hybrid human and seal - which speaks to the Scottish nature ...

Re: Why Sailors Love to Hate the MacGregor 26
Funny, I could not get over the thought that I had seen that guy before. So I searched through video reviews of Mac 26s and lo and behold, 5 years ago he (or someone who looks and sounds a lot like him) offered a pretty similar guarded review that I had looked at before I bought my M: https://www.yo...

Re: Why Sailors Love to Hate the MacGregor 26
I haven't looked at the review yet but this weekend in "Canada's National Newspaper", an ad was run by our lottery and gaming corporation that showed all the wonderful things that could happen to you if you bought a lottery ticket (or two, or three, etc etc). Get a load of the boat they ch...

Re: Corsswinds and docking
Definitely looks like a M19. I am wondering what type of motor he's got attached back there. I thought maybe an electric but at some point in the video you can see a pretty strong thrust stream coming sideways out from under the boat....and what sounds to be an ic engine running it. A bit beside the...

Re: Fuel Primer Bulb
I haven't had this problem (yet) but I think ethanol in gasoline can ruin gas lines. I had a chainsaw that had its fuel lines and primer bulb go to mush likely due to ethanol and me forgetting to add an appropriate fuel treatment. Perhaps the same is true for marine fuel lines and components? I'd li...

Re: Fogging the engine
The winterizing instructions in both the owners manual and the more technical service manual for my 2011 Suzuki DF60A only say to change the oil, filter as well as the lower unit oil - and ensure you've got gas line antifreeze/stabilizer run through the entire fuel system. Since I always add stabili...

Re: MacGregor 26M Blog – A Beginner’s Journey
I have started using D pins this year. It makes removing the spreaders fast. That is a great idea. I remove my M's spreaders each Fall so they don't interfere with the winter tarp. I have reused the lock nuts a couple of times and was planning on getting a bunch of them as replacements since you sh...

Re: Rudder Ropes & Rodents?
Dyneema boiled in spinach.....could be done though I imagine muskrats (assuming that was the culprit) would love that :) . I guess in that line of thought (pardon the pun) I could saturate the in-water portion of the line with marine grease (or some such environmentally friendly goo) but not so much...

Rudder Ropes & Rodents?
Well, the 26M came out of the water this weekend. To my surprise I found the port rudder rope had been severed in two places. I am pretty sure it could not have reached the prop so am thinking it was a muskrat looking for soft nesting material. Anyone have rudder line damage in/at the water line lik...

Re: Tow boat, slip to ramp
Wow - what a ringing endorsement of staying healthy and enjoying sailing as long as you can - particularly in an area like the San Francisco Bay. Its a great endorsement of Macs as well :D . As for finding someone to help move your boat, I have found boaters to be a very willing and helpful bunch. T...

Re: WHAT AM I MISSING WHEN MOTORING
Installing the new steering cable was not hard but the "toothbrush" pedestal on my M was packed with other wires etc. I had to cut some of them to clear the way for the cable through the cockpit floor - and then rejoined them which was a bit of a pain. Fortunately all the gauges and instru...

Re: WHAT AM I MISSING WHEN MOTORING
The wander on my M at all speeds was pretty bad last summer. I had to spin the wheel 45 degrees or so - back and forth to try to get it to go in a zig zag motion forward. This was pretty exhausting. I changed out the steering cable this year and this improved things quite a bit. Now I am correcting ...

Re: Cabin floor
Aah, thought as much. Carpet tape is a good idea - I've had success with products like Goo Gone to dissolve and remove adhesive residues from all sorts of tape - including Gorilla tape - with that stuff.
