Re: Solo mast stepping Venture 21

Im not finding very good pictures online for baby stays, mostly diagrams or just hardware. Do they run from the chain plates or are they closer in on the same plane as the base of the mast? My rigging attaches lower than the foot of the mast so as the mast goes up shrouds get snug, if i attach somet...

Re: Solo mast stepping Venture 21

The OEM brackets can be strengthened by putting a wood block between the two halves, which reduces the unsupported length of each bracket and therefore increases the buckling strength. Mine is all DIY, i dont have a factory setup. My new arrangement is going to be an "A" frame type gin po...

Re: Solo mast stepping Venture 21

Ill have to look those up.

I know the collapse of the bracket at the base of my gin pole made things wiggly and could be 100% of the issue, but im just trying to eliminate anything that may have contributed to its collapse.

Thanks guys

Solo mast stepping Venture 21

I've only raised the mast once and on the way back down my bracket collapsed for the base of my gin pole. Still got it down safely, i've come up with a new setup for spring. I noticed the way the mast is shaped and that the base has a slot in it for the bolt which allows the mast to sway about and t...

The lower stays are attached at the spreaders on my 21, about 3/4 of the at up theres a cable bolted to my mast with a block for my jib. I s...

Re: A few Venture 222 rigging questions...

On my 21 the backstay comes down and splits in 2 then attaches at the rear outmost corners. I agree that what you have on the back stay looks like a main sheet and should run to the tang on the boom. Supposing the boom makes it out that far. Most of the stays ive seen reach to a U bolt and are shack...

Re: Excited to hit the water...

That's a killer boat compared to what i dropped $1k on lol. Most of my rigging and lines were in place but if you google about and search this forum you'll find images of what's what and what goes where. Pretty safe bet the thickest lines are halyards and usually have some kind of pin type attachmen...

Re: New member old Venture 21

There is a halyard already for the jib/genoa that runs to the head. Maybe it was converted by a different owner and they left this in place.

Thank you

Re: New member old Venture 21

I managed to step the mast and sort it all out. I got most things figured out except there's a block on a cable about 2/3 - 3/4 the way up the bow side of the mast. Im not sure what it would be for, its near the top of the photo.

Re: New member old Venture 21

Most likely I'll spend my free time this year taking inventory of what I have, what I need, what needs replaced , and what needs repaired. Come up with solutions to the solo mast stepping issue 🙄... Cuz I'll need to be able to solo the boat. When i get my bonus in Feb I'll start collecting the goodi...

Re: New member old Venture 21

Hi WayWard2021, Old pieces make it easier to make new pieces…. If you think the price is gonna self destruct on removal might I suggest that you get some strip pieces of 1/4 ply and secure them as appropriate either good double stick tape and short sheet metal screws. Leave access for removal from ...

Re: New member old Venture 21

The 21 is the fastest of the Ventures with the exception of the 15' catamaran. Pay close attention to the entire keel lift assembly, especially the bolt that attaches the cable to the keel itself. I would replace the bolt, cable and winch just to be on the safe side. You could order the boat with a...

Re: New member old Venture 21

It looks pretty good for having been neglected for a few years! What part of Ohio are you in? I live near Dayton so i'll probably frequent Ceasar's Creek Lake as its the closest to me. With enough practice and skill i'll make the longer trip to Grand Lake/St. Mary's and play on the big lake, someth...
