Knockdown!

Went sailing on the Chesapeake bay with the Admiral for our anniversary. My intent was to show her how enjoyable sailing really is. We left the dock, and I raised the main. All looked good for anout 2 minutes. We had noticed a black thuder cloud in the distance. I was moving at a right angle to its ...

Installed Rotech Rotary stteering on my 26M

Well, it was quite a bit of work, but I installed the rotary Rotech steering system on my 2003 26M. My factory installed rack and pinion steering was always making cracking sounds. Upon inspection the outer cast casing was cracked in half. I was very dissatisfied with the rack and pinion steering an...

Roller Furling Boom (by MacOwner)

I'm working on a boom furler design now. I want to keep it simple and least expensive as possible. So far, I have an aluminum roll mounted to a steel shaft. This whole asssembly is then mounted on bearings which fit inside bearing blocks. The bearing blocks in-turn mount to the outer shell. So now, ...

Hmmm...broaching. I am a newby sailor, but I believe I experienced this a few times in the Chesapaeake with moderate winds (12-15 knots) and a choppy sea. I did not have the Jib unfurled and as a result I broached twiced. As a new sailor I did not know what happened. However, after returning home an...

I am now thinking about the same idea of disconnecting the jib furler from the mast and storing it further back on the mast for trailering. I need to check that out. I am really anxious now to try tacking with the jib unfurled. Hmm...looks like a nice 3-day weekend coming up!! One really nice access...

Has anybody tried the hydraulic steering systems? Looks like Teleflex provides this as well. This would make for a very smooth, low-effort steering system. It has my interest!!

Michigan Prop

OK, I took another look at my Michigan prop (3x12x10) as it was not fitting on my Suzuki DF-50 properly as explained above. Upon further examination, I found that there was a spacer on the shaft which could be removed (this was in addittion to the thrust washer). I removed it, replaced the prop and ...

Thanks Frank. Exactly my problem! :D It's interesting that MW advertising says "replaces your old prop" and yet it doesn't. I had assumed when I bought the prop that I would simply replace the Suzuki prop. Hmmmm...didn't think to search further as I thought this thread was pretty thorough....

Had the M out today in the James river for prop testing. I swapped out the standard Suzuki 13 pith for a Michigan 3x11-3/4x10. I had a major cavitation problem with this prop and could only manage 9 Knots. ABove 4500 rpm I had cavitaion. I noted there was about 1/2" distance between the gearcas...
