Re: Favorite sailing picture
Sailing in the Texas 200 this event 2023 was a blast and totally challenging. 5 day event and I believe this was the 2 nd day. winds were 20 to 25 knots at the start of the day. I have blowout my Macgregor sails years ago and sail with a reefed Hobie 16 main and jib I have laying around. The jib is ...

Re: New 20 horsepower outboard
I think I will shop around for a used 50 horsepower. Price of new outboards are out of my price range. My Tahatsu 50 is not running any more and came with the boat . It’s a 1995 macx 26. one of the 1 st 100 boats out of the factory. Did not get to sail this year at all . 😒 thanks for the info on the...

New 20 horsepower outboard
I’m thinking about purchasing a 20 hp outboard, Suzuki, Yamaha or tahatsu. I’m sure somebody has a 20 hp behind their M or their 26X boat and I am wondering what kind of cruising speed I can get with this motor

Re: M mast raising system on a X dimensions
My two cents on this issue, I have an original 95 Macgregor 96X and use the original mast raising system. I see no problem in the design ,what I do like about it is as I use the winch to raise the mask. I am in the cockpit and able to easily reach any snags in the rigging to allow the mast to raise ...

Re: Brand new mac owner
I sail and motor full ballast and board down most of the time. I will pull up the swing keel up down wind. Don’t try to motor with mast up and board up with no ballast around a bunch of other boats . Admiral and I tryed this once and the wakes from other boats causes violent uncontrollable rocking. ...

Re: Bahamas 2025 Planning
Holy Mac Intosh , those fees sound outrageous. I also would love to sail to the Bahamas. But with that cruising expense and time spent waiting to cross the Gulf Stream both ways don’t think it’s doable for us. . We are planning to fly and bunk in hotels in October. Will probably plan another trip ju...

Re: Tips for anchoring a 26X
Cheers,
I like that simple set up of your anchor Kelvin. might have to copy that one. I like two anchors out of the bow 70 degrees or so apart to keep the boat from swinging all night long. One of these days I will try the stern sail fixed for that purpose.

Re: Chicken pox
Sounds like my bottom on my 26 x when I purchase 7 years ago . Got a good deal on my boat because it sat for 9 years in a slip on a fresh water lake and of course motor did run or batteries had no charge. The bottom had hundreds of those chicken pox soars . I just happen to be experiencing in fiberg...

Re: Stern Light wiring broken
A lot of the wire headed to and from the stern on my 95 x was just laying on the bottom of the boat and water just fills in from leaks that I cannot completely stop to this day. So it was my mission and success completed to rewire all wire up out of that area, no more wire in my bilges . That gave m...

Re: Stern Light wiring broken
I completely required my x including the stern light . I had to purchase a 6 inch hole saw and and install round port access holes. At the stern on both sides and pull new wire up and to access the bolts holding on the stern fixture. Totally worth the effort in my opinion having not to worry about t...

Re: New MOB item
Maybe a very good option would be to have a handheld radio clipped to your jacket so as to call in your position while you watch your Macgregor sail away. I don’t know that I would like to be tethered to the boat that could be a drowning situation. It would probably hard to get a knife out of your p...

Re: New MOB item
That reminds me when I was in my 20s we used to hang a rope behind the Hobie cat and the game was to jump in the front of the boat and grab the rope at the back of the boat and try to pull yourself back to the transom of the Hobie cat and climb on the boat we called it Navy seals. But none if us are...
