Re: Hison 26: How Good?

Looks like a hoax. Maybe this offer is, but Hison really manufactured MacGregor copies. Here it is on their website: http://www.hisonjetski.com/latestnews.php https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/_OV20Rc0sWyOqTrVZeFKtLUEt9eG8dpliPUKmdgCJcZc_rGKiFrx-XmrRxG8lXx7rjK0mAxRHV1IuR2uUbwPDi-yX5CP8PqrTexI...

Hison 26: How Good?

How good is the Hison 26? According to alibaba they are still being made and start at just $15,500. Is there anybody else still manufacturing a MacGregor like boat? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Classic-26ft-sail-boat-for-sale_1585836587.html?spm=a2700.details.deiletai6.3.756f5656EXUhEV htt...

Gas: From NYC to Finger Lakes

How much gas do you think a MacGregor 26 will use going from NYC to the Finger Lakes? It is over 200 miles. 70 HP. Is there much of a difference going upstream instead of downstream?

Re: How Much Work Do These Need - CHEAP!

Here's my quick, off the top, take on a shopping list for getting a used boat ready to take out onto open waters. Bear in mind that the items listed below do not include anything related to creature comforts such as mattress upgrades, food storage, cooking gear including barbque, water system impro...

Re: How Much Work Do These Need - CHEAP!

I would say that the 26X in Tampa would be a very good deal, without even examining the condition of the boat. The aluminum tandem axle trailer is probably worth the asking price. If you find a 26X which is sitting on its original steel trailer, I expect the first thing you'd need to do is buy a ne...

Re: 26M Better than 26X?

None. There's no metal in the CB other than the mount, and that's not connected to anything metallic. Below in the MacGregor summary of changes is where I got the idea about the electrolysis and leaks. Can the centerboard leak as opposed to the daggerboard? Is the metal below the waterline, but ins...

How Much Work Do These Need - CHEAP!

I was wondering how much it would cost to get an old, cheap MacGregor seaworthy enough so it can safely go 2 miles into the ocean. Below are some random samples of cheap MacGregors on carigslist. There is one 26x for $3,500. What would most likely need to be replaced? How much to rapair/update to be...

Re: 26M Better than 26X?

Below is a link to the summary of changes from 26x to 26m. MacGregor claims the 26M is better. Is as better as claimed? How much electrolysis and leakage is caused by the centerboard in the 26x? The new boat is significantly faster under both power and sail, and quite a bit faster under main alone. ...

26M Better than 26X?

Is the 26M really better than the 26X? If so how?
Do they both have the same headroom below?
Is the 26X easier to walk on top of?
Is the deeper V in the hull of the 26M really a benefit?
Is the daggerboard really better than the centerboard?

List of Questions: Ballast, Sails, etc.

Below are a list of questions that I could not find answers anywhere on the web. Instead of 14 additional posts, I put them in one. Someone on the forum asked what I wanted to do with it. I am attracted to the MacGregor 26 because it is the only boat with a big cabin for week long sails and it is tr...

I am trying to learn about the MacGregor boats to make an informed buying decision. I do not know which I will be able to find a deal on. No leaks, but what about all the windows and hardware bolted on the top?

Where are the Leaks and the Bilge?

Where is the most common place for leaks on the MacGregor 26, please?
How fast does the bilge fill? Is there room for two bilge pumps?

High Sides

The sides on the MacGregor 26 are very high. Is it hard to dock because of that? Is it hard to tie the cleats on the dock from the boat? Is it hard to walk along the side of the boat?
