My Honda BF50 will actually collapse the tank if the vent's not open. I guess your motor doesn't suck as much as mine :D

I posted that my tach had failed last year, and it was suggested that my windings were fried under the flywheel . . . which was weird, since the battery still charged. I didn't do anything about replacing the tach, though, since I can pretty much tell 5500RPM by the pitch of the engine. I think it's...

Did I bork my Honda BF50?

Pulling away from a dock at low tide in a tight spot, I think I sucked some gunk (mud maybe) into the cooling system. Shortly after I got clear, I noticed that my Honda wasn't peein'. After farting around a bit trying to figure out what was plugged, I managed to get back to the dock and tie up, but ...

So Rich, that begs a question. You live in Callyfornie and work in Minnesota??? I have heard of commuting, but I think you win the award for the longest regular commute. I gripe about my daily 20 minute commute to work or 20 minute commute to the lake. Man, your frequent flyer miles must be worth a...

Wow, sorry about your problems with such a simple service Paul. ...Own an illegal motor.... I don't think it is "illegal" although you should have been told about that and the fact that ... I bought one of those engines, and I live pretty far away from Havencraft. Otho paid a local (to me...

The motor was provided with a Havencraft warrantee, and the net result for me was that it was fixed at no cost. I got a good price on the motor, too. How is the lack of a "factory" warranty impacting me? Couldn't the residual value of your boat be impacted? Many of us shop the whole count...

I feel for Paul; I'd be quite upset in the same situation. However, I feel it's necessary to point out that Havencraft did right by me, and appears to have gone the extra mile for Paul too (motor origin notwithstanding). I couldn't disagree more. They sold you guys motors with no factory warranty w...

Not me. In a situation like this, I'd spend the time and money to set things right even I had an ultimate loss. I do not take getting ripped-off lightly. This is clearly and unequivocally getting ripped-off. For the sake of future customers, I hope Paul makes a court case out of this. Dead fish are...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I wasn't informed of the Canadian origin of the motor when I purchased my boat from Havencraft/Millennium in February of 2003, and was surprised (and not a little upset) with that fact when I needed service for my hydraulic tilt. A call to Otho @ Havencraft/Millenn...

If you dealt with Otho Campbell when you purchased your boat, you should contact him directly for any warranty repair issues. Like you, I was uninformed that the motor I had purchased with my boat was of Canadian origin, but Otho paid for the repair without batting an eye. I'm surprised you were abl...

Yup, removed it, checked it, reinserted it, wiggled it a bit to make sure it was seated. Since the problem happened, it hasn't reoccurred over 3 days of sailing and motoring.

Tach's still broke, though :(

Re: Windings are burnt out under flywheel

Tack stopping means your windings are burnt under flywheel, remove top cover and look under fly wheel, if the white covered windings are brown they are burt and your charging system is gone. This can happen from a loose battery cable, or a cable end coming off. Windings are 120.00 and fly wheel bol...

Just a note . . . they're zinc-plated steel rather than SS. Once the zinc wears off, they'll rust.
