Re: Messing with Real Sailboats
Thanks Bob, yes it's a fun boat with full crouching headroom in the cabin. What's that 118 number? Portsmouth? If it was a PHRF it might have been kinder if they'd made you drag an anchor around!!

Re: Messing with Real Sailboats
So bottom line here is do some mods to your Mac beat it like a cheap two dollar fun lady and see how it lines up with those real sailboats before giving some MAMBI PAMBI speech on how much a Mac is a compromise that you love like a trusty ball and chain. Yep my New Years Resolution is official brok...

Re: Messing with Real Sailboats
I sailed my :macx: for three years but the racing bug had got to me so I sold it last February and bought a Capri 25 which is very much a racing cruiser, so I can now easily compare the two. It's not so much that the "real" sailboats are a lot faster, they're a BIT faster. The biggest diff...

Re: How can the Mac 26X sail close hauled better?
Opie, I had fun racing my :macx: over the last 3 years until I sold it this Spring. We had to work very hard to not come last in our mixed fleet, but usually didn't. I would say my GPS tracks showed tacking angles of around 50 to 55 degrees depending on conditions, so yes, it's possible to do better...

Re: Mac 26X YouTube video
I really enjoyed the video, Mark, and you do great "voice"! So good to see something balanced between the Mac haters who have probably never been on one, and Roger's original sales video showing a Mac driving onto a trailer in zero wind and current with Roger claiming "This is as easy...

Mac 26X YouTube video
I don't know if this is old news but I hadn't seen it before...... http://www.youtube.com/watch#!videos=qNVkZF41cBY&v=RelScMU3S0Y Nicely put together, good commentary, and about as accurate and honest an evaluation as you could possibly hope for, really well done. Is he one of our own? I like hi...

Re: Best price on Genoa cars?
Allan, This thread is getting confusing but your photo shows jib cars. I started out with only a jib and cars like these. When I bought a genoa I tried using the jib cars for the genoa but it doesn't work very well. The cars need to swivel (yaw) to find their optimum position because a genoa sheet h...

Re: Bang Bang!
Oh.... I meant to say.... for the centerboard job, I advise you have something like a piece of carpet on the ground below the ceterboard. It helps when you realize that the centerboard is heavier and more awkward to handle in a confined space than you anticipated :o. Or when you're inside the boat t...

Re: Bang Bang!
Allan, Congratulations on your new passion! So sorry you won't be visiting me to see if my :macx: would have worked out for you but thanks for your free plug on my classified ad! Yes, the whole centerboard can be removed with the boat on the original trailer, on your newer double axle one, it depend...

Worcestershire Sauce? Oh yes, you can get that......... they just can't pronounce it!
Jim, are you bilingual yet? Two great nations divided by a common language and all that? Wise to avoid the spotted dick. You might be careful about getting yer Toad in a Hole too.

Re: Sailing the UKs east Coast
Mmmmm......... sausage butty! You're killing me! When we first came to the States I had to get visitors to bring HP Sauce with them, couldn't get it here. But now the local booze store has it in a little "ethnic" section with a shelf or two of "British Soul Food." Real Heinz Bake...

Re: Sailing the UKs east Coast
Well that would have been quite a sight! It's a long, long time since I did any "displays" out there. Yes, Google Earth let me figure out where Baston is and it brought back those memories. The Wash looks quite uninviting from the air, just a muddy pit, but Dylan Winter's videos have made ...

Re: Sailing the UKs east Coast
Matt, Thanks for that, didn't know of Baston, but your area is familiar to me. Many moons ago I was a trainee pilot at RAF Cranwell just to the north of you. Bourne, Spalding, Wisbech, and Boston were familiar land marks and later on so were the ranges at Wainfleet and Holbeach. Hope you didn't sust...

Re: Sailing the UKs east Coast
P.S. Bastonjock..... where in Lincolnshire is your boat? When I first read your screen name I didn't have my specs on and assumed you were a displaced Scot in Boston (the REAL one)...... or maybe you are?
