Re: Is this the boat for me?

Sorry I fell out of the loop here. I've been busy Internet boat shopping :-) Oh and as always, watching YouTube sailing videos. It's amazing how my taste in the types of videos I like has changed. Well I'm not going to lie and pretend the ones with the bikinis aren't fun, but there are some really e...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

I only took my Snark on it once. Just a couple of thoughts, if you are moving up from a Snark. I have had and sailed one (Snark that is) and have had my 26X for almost 15 years. I got my Snark just a couple of years ago and fixed it up for two of my granddaughters to learn sailing. When I got my 26...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

I'm still trying to figure out prices. They seem to be all over the place with some older Xs listed for much more than some of the Ms. I know equipment can factor in and I have been taking that into account. Yup, I have been flipping a few salvage and donation boats. Bought/sold a west wight potter...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

If you are not thinking in a big engine why not a 26s? 2 years ago I had a laser2. I had a lot of fun, but I wanted something bigger where I can sleep, easy to prepare and sail single handed. After some research I decided the Macgregor 26 was the best choice. At that time a macgregor 26 X or M was ...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

I don't know what your price range is, but There are some other makes that are building some nice looking shallow draft small cruisers too. They seem to be in the 50 60 boat buck range, with 5 more shipping to the US. Swallow yachts I think. We also have the Seaward Fox here in the states. The RK26...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

Thanks for all of the great information! As always, that leads to more questions. Is there any published information on the 26 as far as what changes were made and when? To be quite honest I was thinking about the M because from what I read it performs a little better and I was thinking the keel was...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

Noboatnow, Many good points made since my posting. The best was to get training. If you are in the the U.S., I can’t stress enough to you taking a Coast Guard Auxillary sailing course, or some other sailing course. There is so much more to being on the water than just knowing how to use the wind to...

Re: Is this the boat for me?

Really appreciate the reply and this leads me to another question. I tried to search for efficiency. What is the best outboard for cruising at hull speed? I'm not looking to get there fast, I'm looking for the journey! At hull speed it makes not real difference if the motor is propped correctly, th...

Is this the boat for me?

Hello helpful 26 owners! New member here and I found this great place from some researching boats. As my name says, I have no boat now. Well other than a portaboat, kayak, and a Snark. My plan is to join a local sailing club where I took some lessons a few years back and continue learning! My goal i...
