Re: MacGregor 25 with 4 cycle engine
Thanks. I was worried about the strength of the transom with a heavier motor that develops more torque. I made the mistake of buying a used Johnson from a dealer in New Jersey. After two years and many hundreds of dollars of repair bills, it will still only run for a half hour before dying. Since my...

MacGregor 25 with 4 cycle engine
I modified my 1985 Mac 25 by adding a helm station and remote controls. The boat came with a 15 hp 2 cycle merc with tiller steering. Replaced it with a 1993 2cycle Johnson 9.9 with remote controls. The Johnson is now worn out. I'm looking at a Suzuki 4 cycle with remote controls. it's 46 pounds hea...

Dimples in hull
I have a 1985 Mac 25 with what I've been told is a common problem. Support for the hull when on the trailer ends well short of the stern. The bunk ends 6 feet before the stern, but the support for the bunk is positioned 8 feet ahead of the stern. The weight of the boat has caused dents in the hull d...

Re: Time for new bunks
Thanks for the guidance. Still have one concern. As the new bunk bends, if bolted at both ends, it won't be free to conform - the length when curved is greater than with a straight line. Or is that difference not significant? Any insight will be appreciated - I don't want to damage the hull. Also, h...

Time for new bunks
My bunks are getting old. The starboard bunk is in especially bad shape. The sections forward and aft of the rear bunk support have warped downward and the bottom of the hull has a depression in it from too much weight resting directly over the steel support. My question is two part. First, how do I...

Re: Hold onto your seat, matey!
I spoke to one of the largest mercury dealers in the area. They said they never heard of that happening, but also added that they don't have anyone who is very experienced on my particular motor. Mostly, they work on larger motors attached to runabouts or bass boats. I live in the Chattanooga area a...

Hold onto your seat, matey!
My Mac 25 came with a 1994 15hp Mercury 2-cycle long shaft. I've never owned a Merc set up for tiller steering before. This one starts easily and idles nicely. When I twist the tiller grip to put the motor in forward or reverse, the engine speeds up well before the gears engage. From the sound, I'm ...

Re: Running Lights dead
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't want to take the time to install a new type of running lights, so went with the aqua line. They may not be as bright, but they fit the mounts perfectly. The wiring on my boat was also added to haphazardly. The back of the fuse panel looked like an explosion of wire....

Running Lights dead
I have an 85 Mac 25 with worn out running lights. The lenses are severely faded and the screws so corroded that getting the lens off was difficult. Does anyone know where I can buy replacement lenses and the screws that holds the lens assembly on? Or buy replacement lights that will bolt right onto ...

TRAILER WEIGHT MAC 25
Does anyone know the weight of the stock mac 25 trailer? Only the boat is listed in the manual, which shows the weight as 2100 lbs - is this pretty accurate before putting anything in the boat? Considering whether electric brakes on the trailer are worth the cost. I tow with a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup. ...

Re: Hull Question
Thanks for the info and suggestions. Due to low tongue weight, have a trailer mod in the works. We're going to extend the frame and add an axle. Plan to extend the bunks further aft as well. The Mac 25 trailer was obviously built for economy. Thanks again

Hull Question
I'm still working on my "new" 85 Mac 25 and making steady progress. Many thanks to the folks who have answered my questions - they have been extremely helpful. Now, a new concern has come up. There is a slight hook in the hull just over the rear trailer bunk support. It looks to be the sam...

Re: Mast and trailer questions
Thanks for the input. I will add lateral support ropes as well as leveling the boat. I've talked with a local fellow who restores classic cars and in a certified welder. He just finished building a three axle car hauler (he also races a dragster). He's going to look at the trailer this weekend and w...

Mast and trailer questions
Tried to raise the mast on my 1985 Mac 25 for the first time. Used a homemade jin pole which seemed to work well. Once off the elevated support, the mast swung immediately to port. The boat is on the trailer and there is a slight downhill slant to port. So, question 1. How level does the boat need t...
