Re: A starter boat?
Isn't using the term "starter boat" a symptom of Two-Footitis? The sort of thing one says after plunking down 20k extra to get another yard of boat?

Re: MacGregor 19 emergency kicker motor
I use a 6hp on my 222, so I think you'll be fine. There is no need for excessive power as displacement hulls won't plane.

Re: Mac19 restoration
Mac 19s have ballast tanks? Or just a heavy swing keel?

Re: Mac 222
There are well-made kick up rudders for sale. The original rudder is not all that great, very heavy and not especially well shaped. I am contemplating spending the $900 for new rudder to put on my $900 boat.

Re: LED lights for cabin and navigation.
A question on polarity: will reversing +/- damage the LED bulbs, or just keep them from working?

Re: Electronics gurus: In-hull transducer?
Good question! A bit of research reveals that several boaters have used the exterior transducer for interior installations, so give it a shot.

V222 swing keel lock bolt
Reading through the manual (thanks, MacGregorsailors!), I see that it recommends that one only put the down lock bolt in if hitting something is unlikely, and if in shoal or obstruction-laden waters, put the bolt in and ease the keel down to rest on it. However, in a knockdown, that might let the ke...

Re: Salvage 26M on auction
They may have been submerged in the driveway. If drained quickly, they may not show much damage. I imagine there are a ton of cars/boats/motorcycles that are going to be totaled from water damage that might be repairable. Could a 26 lift its trailer in a flood? I mean, float low, but still float?

Re: 26m during winter on the lake... Danger with through hul
My 222 came with a fossilized bilge pump which I replaced with an automatic switch version. I wonder about moving the through hull to empty into the self-draining cockpit; it would alert me to water entry if I were sailing, would drain through the floor, and would not be affected by heeling. Thoughts?

Re: Buoyancy calculation?
I think one just puts as much floatation as will fit. The guys who get in trouble are the ones who pulled styrofoam to make room for a water tank or something. I guess another consideration is how much heavy stuff one can pitch in an emergency...batteries, outboard, anchor, etc. All things one might...

Re: Venture 222 knockdown?
That C-15 turtled in no time...the mast is from an AF15 and I don't think there's any foam in it. I got it sideways pretty quickly, but it took several minutes to drain the mast enough to right it. I hadn't planned to hike out, as two previous (light winds) sails were uneventful. The steady 15mph wi...
