Re: Running rigging

AFAIK, the main sheet boom bail from the factory was directly over the bottom attachment at the helm with the boom pointed straight back. There would be no point in having the main sheet top block attach back at the end of the boom, and it would increase the force on the main sheet for the same net...

Running rigging

So, after buying the boat last fall and just powering with her, I've finally got a couple sailing lessons under my belt and this is now my focus. I'm also realizing a bit more about the boat. The PO seems to have moved the loop where the main sheet attaches from the end of the boom a little bit forw...

Re: Radar Love

.... Basically, if I buy a VHF with AIS built-in, is it functional doing both, or is there a big tradeoff? I would suspect that I can't recieve AIS data while I'm using the radio for other things (unless there's a weird antenna setup that goes along with it), but I'd be curious about actual real-wo...

Re: More than 50 % of stove fires are alcohol stove fires

Oh, and the reference the discussion about induction. If there was a way to make this work on the 26X, I'd be all over it. In our last house we bought a stove that had half induction and half radiant heat. The difference was astounding, and now that we're living in a house with only radiant electric...

Re: Radar Love

I'd like to think that I have a strong case of gadgetitis but just not the finances to fully support it yet. Or perhaps more accurately, not the financial approval yet. But I'm looking at a few AIS receiver options and curious about how you picked that model out. When I look at the SH GX2200, the bi...

Re: More than 50 % of stove fires are alcohol stove fires

This whole topic is very interesting to me. When I bought my boat, it came with a Force 10 propane stove with an aluminum worthington tank mounted on the transom. If I was pulling it out every time I used it, I'd be fine with propane, but I'm very uneasy leaving it in a slip with a bunch of bilge sp...

Re: First Day on the 26X

Oh, the most important point: Despite any issues/observations, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable day, and I'm 100% certain that the MacGregor 26X is the perfect boat for me.

First Day on the 26X

So I ended up buying the '96 26X from this thread: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24429 For a variety of reasons (life/bottom painting/etc), I wasn't able to pick it up until today... But I was able to officially pick it up today and take it home. A few observations here, just...

Re: '96 26X Questions and advice.

My personal biggest caution lies in the fact that it has been on the market for at least a couple months... Now the seller had reused a previous listing so im not certain how long. Also there's no roller furling and I'm getting answers about the Bimini and other cushions. But if there are issues I d...

'96 26X Questions and advice.

Hi everybody, To give a quick rundown of my situation: I'm a Canadian who has recently relocated to Maryland for the next 3 years. The house we rented here is on the water and comes with slip/docking privileges at the Marina next door. The Chesapeake Bay is literally around the corner. I've been des...
