Re: Advise on a fantasy coastal sail to Maine
Thank you all for your help and advise. I thought this boat would be capable and with the motor on this boat I bet getting through the East River is also done without much trouble. My friend was being overly cautious and not having first hand experience with the MacX he was making assumptions. We ar...

Advise on a fantasy coastal sail to Maine
One of my favorite past-times during this season of dry docking is to fantasize about “the big adventure” that may come some day. I have opened folders on my laptop dedicated to gathering information that would ultimately lead to the trip: maps, stories, detailed information about inlets, weather, c...

Re: Any long term answers for faded black stripes?
Ivan, I need to know how much a job like that went for? What are we willing to spend to get the stripes looking good? I maean there's no stopping the knind of compulsion Hardcrab has, but part of what I love about this boat is the ease of use and lack of expense. Yet I too am curious since it is irr...

We do not own the land. Infact, no one does as far as I know. He has a mooring out there, but it is not maintained. He is afraid it will break with my boat. Let's just say it is legal and can be done. Would a 5 gallon bucket of concrete be sufficient to sleep well knowing the boat is safe and won't ...

Temporary mooring
I like to trailer boats to vacation spots, typically its is the Casco Bay in Maine, but it could be Toms River or Liberty State Park. Until last year I took my West Wight Potter 15 up to Maine and anchored out to where low tide was still a foot of water. Sometimes I even kept it in close and let it ...

Thanks, kmclemore, I probably should jsut slow down, but it seemes such work for my Ody to get to its speed...to its proper rpm's that I hated to steal it back by slowing. It seemed fairly easy to correct it by disrupting its frequency, but I am glad to hear that it is fixed more simply by balancing...

Made it up here yesterday. The most disturbing thing was when the trailer first started doing a little fish tailing. Scared the CRAP out of me! The rest of the ride I was on a little edge controlling it. When it begins to happen, I either try to counter the frequency of the trailer's wagging directl...

Tow to Maine with Honda Odyssey
We are preparing to take the 26X up to Maine from New Jersey tomorrow. We go up every year to South Freeport and sail in the Casco Bay. Normally we are towing (and sailing) a West Wight Potter 15, a 450 pound boat. Already I towed it from South Shore Marina which is on Greenwood Lake between NY and ...

Want to thank everyone for their offers and want to announce that I am the new proud owner of a 2000X! Once we began to research it, it was like an avalanche and before we knew it we were buying one. We bought locally at the South Shore Marina and had a wonderful time. Took it for a sea trial and we...

Thanks, Cris! Wow, a 99X?!?!? It takes me an hour and a half to get to Bridgeport. You may be another 20 minutes from there. Beautiful location, Stamford. It is probably a 50/50 chance we could make it there anytime soon, but an offer for a short cruise might push the balance. LOL! I will check with...

Initially we were focused on that new M model. I want to remain open minded and would like to take a look at the X models as well. Yes, I am aware of that marina and we enjoy going to Greenwood Lake quite a bit. (Many good places to get steamers!) But of course I would most enjoy speaking with and t...

Would like to visit someone's Mac 26!
My wife and I were excited to find the Macgregor 26x and M models as the likely boat we will be purchasing. We are in Rockaway, NJ and would love it if some of you nearby (meaning within 100 miles...Jersey shore, east PA, southern NY...)would be so gracious as to allow us to see your boat. I have be...
