Re: Sealing Windows with 3M VHB Heavy Duty & Dow Corning 795

I'm a bit late to the discussion but I replaced all my windows a couple years ago with BWY version from Ezra. They're a good fit but they leaked like a noodle strainer until I used clear Flexx-Seall. Yeah the stuff at Wal-Mert. Not a drop now. ... the best $15 bucks I've spent on the boat. Buy two o...

Re: Mac 26x lead (C.E. to C.L.P)

Thanks all for the questions and feedback. Judy, great point. Is there any scientific (i.e. fluid dynamics) analysis available to most sailors? Where can one find this detailed analysis/data? Seriously, I would love for an average boat buyer/owner to have access to this technology for informed decis...

Re: Mac 26x lead (C.E. to C.L.P)

To qualify my question a bit, I was on a broad reach out of Lake Michigan Friday night with 30 mph (26 knot) wind gusts. Not the wisest scenario, I know. The heeling effects were clear and there was not heading up, but I'm looking for weather helm effects and thus the question on lead (pronounced li...

Mac 26x lead (C.E. to C.L.P)

Does anyone know the lead (distance from the Center of Effort from the Center of Lateral Plane divided by the LWL) on the Mac 26x, assuming a standard factory rig with main and jib?

If I have to guess I'd say about 10%??

Thanks in advance!

Re: how far does the centerboard line let out

I put electrical tape around different points on my CB line to remind me of fully down CB, half, 3/4 and up since all have good use depending on sailing or simply motoring to the dock. Point being that for the Mac each of those few inches make a difference in speed, steerage or direction.

Re: Mast, rigging and sail for Macgragor 26x 1999

I talk to Ezra in the parts department at BWY. He knows what parts they have on hand and what can be made based on factory specs. This is THE resource for those of us trying to restore a Mac.

Re: Cabin Cushion Replacement

http://i68.tinypic.com/11hc7fa.jpg Still a work in progress since I'll have to build some straps for the seat backs. A guy at the Miami boat show quoted me $1,400 for the whole job. Instead the wife and I did the job. All materials were bought online, foamfactory.com and amazon for the sunbrella fa...

Cabin Cushion Replacement

Hi All, I'm replacing the original cushions on my Mac 26X with a burgundy sunbrella fabric. The results so far are amazing. I'll post pics for the community when finished. Only one problem: I forgot to take measurements on the little cushion on the port side aft of the galley over the battery hatch....

Re: 1st Sail

I'm right with you rumdirty! I did my 3rd sail on Lake Michigan this week (this one solo) on my 2000 Macx. I do wear the PFD that has been recommended by others here, perhaps simply because the "sea" here is consistently 1 to 3 feet minimum. Sailing gloves may seem like a 80s fashion state...

Re: OEM Plumbing

So does the water from the galley sink go overboard or into the bilge? I have a holding tank collecting the drainage from the sink in the head. The galley sink drain is still leaving me scratching my head. If I rinse off a plate of smoked fish in the galley sink, are my spare life vests under a hatc...

OEM Plumbing

Hi All, I am new to this forum and a new MacGregor 26x owner. I've read the great advice and information for months and I'm really glad this community exists. Since buying my boat I'm made minor upgrades and repairs like de-oxidation of the hull, new stainless steel handle for the hatch cover, new f...
