Re: Winter Reading List

If you are looking for a technical read, I'd recommend a couple by Marchaj: Seaworthiness - the forgotten factor. Good read that gives the history of yacht design and how the racing rules have influenced design - not necessarily for the best. A good study in boat stability and the factors that influ...

Re: Companionway lock

I was able to find an inexpensive covered lock lock from Master. Works well so far - about 4 years now with the boat left on the water most of the time.

Re: Making the hank on jib fit a CDI furler-Help

I had a Doyle jib that had a line sewn into the luff. I was able to pry off the hanks and feed it through my foil. Worked like a charm. In addition to supporting the furler beyond the end of the mast with a piece of three inch baseboard, I bought a huge roll of saran wrap from the dollar store and w...

Re: Volume of 26M Daggerboard

Also, don't forget to factor in keeping the board up while under power. Even bouncing through a light chop with 750lbs hanging above a hole in the bottom of the boat is going to be a significant force to be reckoned with. Really good point. Might be why Pearl Noire opted for the bulb instead of wei...

Re: trip log app

Try Asteris Log. It's a free app on Google Play Store.

It connects your log entry or photos with GPS locations and date stamps. Can view on a map or as a log. The free version provides a limited number of log entries, so you can try it out, but longer term you might want to upgrade.

Cheers,
C

Re: Volume of 26M Daggerboard

Ok - time for me to come clean. This'll be a little contentious - there are lots of opinions on weighted dagger boards floating around. I cracked my dagger board when I grounded it trying to outrun a storm. In spite of that incident the likelihood of grounding where I sail is slim to none if a perso...

Re: "Sub $600 Autopilot" Progress

When i am done, I will have a straight line vented ballast tank that vents into the chain locker - so 1/2 of the job will be done. The next step is deciding if I need to shut down that vent tube altogether - I assumed it was important because the factory has us putting a rubber stopper in the hole,...

Re: Formal Training

I started out with an introductory course, and did the Sailing for Dummies book. Surprisingly it gave me a few tools that some of the "old salties" around the club didn't know. I was lucky enough to have a former polish Olympic sailor at the club who came out with us a number of times and ...

Volume of 26M Daggerboard

Has anyone calculated the volume of the dagger board for the 26M?

I'm trying to figure out what my options are if I go ahead with dropping some lead in the bottom.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Profurl Spinnaker Furler 0.9

Nice setup! So if I have it right farthest on the bowsprit is the assymetrical spinnaker. Often gennakers have the sheets run around the outside of the jib or furler so I assume the setup works well gybing. Do I have it right? Closest to the mast - storm jib? Sheets should be ok. Next are jib and ge...

Berber boy - great story. Wish I had the imagination to come up with a name with a story like it. On another note, my wife and I love Africa. Spent some time in Zim, SA, and Swaziland. Swaziland was a favorite - we were part of a group rebuilding an old mining town to house orphans. I was discussing...

Re: Genoa bits

Bang on. There should be similar lines on the main sail leech as well. I have had a bit of a problem with my leech curling over to windward, and have loosened these leech lines completely - even a bit of slack above each clip. It took most of the curl out. There is no tension left in the leech lines...

Good point on the price. Cheap vs. new batteries every year - thanks I'll look into one.
