Re: The myth of aging fiberglass
This topic has been discussed on this site. By the late 1990s, Macgregor no longer used any type of wood coring. By the the end of 1999, the only wood was in the door to the head and the steps to the companionway ladder. https://i.postimg.cc/675w0Fjj/Screenshot-20260218-192559-Chrome.jpg https://i.p...

Re: Trawler / Mactrawler
Thanks for your help. I installed a one inch high barrier a couple of years again which does an acceptable job interrupting water from flowing off the cabin top, down the companionway bulkhead and into the cockpit. Now I need to create an additional piece of enclosure, not large, maybe two or three ...

Re: Trawler / Mactrawler
Very nice looking boat you have there. Great enclosure. And I agree that a large part of the appeal of the 26x or 26M is they are readily convertible depending on circumstances. In the end, chances are I'm just going to add the windlass and make some changes in the margins with the current enclosure...

Trawler / Mactrawler
Considering turning my 2002 26X into a full-time trawler. The first photo shows the boat with the silver sunbrella enclosure as it existed for about 10-12 years. The second photo with the black enclosure shows the boat in its current configuration for the last year. The third photo shows the general...

Re: The Reason Your Headsail Isn’t Performing - Genoa Tracks
Items in the photo are all easily removable or arranged in a different order or location on the track. Though I don't have a photo available, I also put one of the sail track cars with the fixed cleats on the jib track on the cabin top to function as a midship cleat. Sail track car with Cam cleat ht...

Cabin top clutches
Do you have specific recommendations or advice for installing cabin top clutches? Both about a specific brand or style as well as some useful installation hints that would allow me to do this without cutting into the cabin headliner. I have a 2002 26x and I'm adding a hardtop dodger with stamoid sid...

Re: Rub rail...
I uploaded a detailed post about changing the rub rail on a 2002 26x a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the photos no longer work. So I'm going to upload the text again (below) with some of the photos. https://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=371459#p371459 "Changing the rub ra...

Re: A Shower Project in the 26X (Formerly titled “Proper wood to glass in”)
For the task you are describing, Coosa would be better than marine plywood. It's stronger and provides more structural support. It is also lighter and more water resistant. It's just as easy or easier than marine plywood to shape and fair. It is somewhat more expensive. I included a photo of a 4' x ...

Re: Wrapping MacGregor blue - silver metallic
For the black I retained on the top side I used interluxe brightside, thick consistency, single coat, worked extremely well, unfortunately recently discontinued, $50-$60 for half a pint, sheesh, but that was sufficient to do the job.

Re: Wrapping MacGregor blue - silver metallic
The silver boat is not my boat. I just thought it was interesting. I don't have knowledge or an opinion about hull color except (1) If you bang your boat around as much as I do, you would probably prefer paint and (2) I prefer the boat with less black on the top side, second photo is after I painted...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
2002 26X. I ran a Suzuki DF60AV for about 5 years (1,900 hours) with a variety of auxiliaries, most recently a Suzuki DF6. In late Autumn, 2024, I removed the 60 HP, upgraded to a panther four stroke auxiliary mount and now have a Suzuki 20 HP DF20ATL5, Suzuki 9.9 HP DF9.9BEL5 and occasionally use a...

Re: Better than a Mac?
As they say, "horses for courses." This boat is basically a mini transat with lifting keels. So if your goal is to travel under sail as fast as possible in a monohull that you can trailer, this boat looks most excellent and definitely faster than a Macgregor and 98%+ other sail boats less ...

Re: Cabin floor
It has an adhesive backing. I also sprayed the perimeter of the floor with 3M maximum strength contact spray. The edges have not come up at all. Oh your boat looks so nice. Love the stove there! I see the foam flooring. It’s not terribly expensive (for boat stuff) I guess I could replace it every fe...

Re: Cabin floor
I have had this for about a year. It's tough and stands up to some abuse. If it gets dirt or food stains, so far, they just come right off by scrubbing with warm water. The final picture I posted is an example before doing maintenance cleaning which I do whenever it catches my attention but only tak...
