Archives

A bit off topic but, how does one access the archives? Will the search function search them as well? Is there a way to "browse" the archives?

I took some closeups of the drain Tuesday. I'll try to post them when I get home tonight.

Sure wish the guy I bought my X from had told me about the other valve I've been using only the small gate valve. I gotta' get the appropriate manual for my boat for sure.

Hull ballast drain

I'll give that a try when I bring her back home.

What is the ballast drain under the hull all about? Is there a specific use for it or can I ignore it and just use the gate valve on the transom?

Ballast drain in hull?

To recap; I was concerned about water “gushing” out from under the hull of my 1996 26X after a three day outing. I inspected the hull and dropped the center board and thankfully, no obvious hull breaches were found. There was quite a bit of wear where the CB pivot pin rests in the hull on the port s...

I didn't realize the CB held water; that might account for what I saw. After all, water coming from a hull is like bleeding; a little can look like a whole lot. I've also been following the keel removal thread and I find it wierd that the pivot pin has "edges" to it and had apparently show...

You probably already have an owner's manual which has a fair diagram of the center board. If not; go to the manuals section of this site, you'll find it there.

Thanks very much for the reply; I follow your reasoning and I think it does indeed apply to my situation. The force applied while trying to free the vessel from the trailer did appear to be (at least for the most part) along the long axis. Further, I don’t think there were any “impulse” loads to the...

Very reassuring words, I'm new to sailing and boat ownership for that matter and I've been quite discouraged. Kudos to the keepers of the MacGregor Sailors pages! I've "lurked" on the boards for quite sometime now; the site is great. I will show my support and I would encourage others to d...

Max, Your problem does indeed sound very similar to mine. Gives ya' a sick feeling in the ole' gut, doesn't it? I'll try to get to the source of the problem as soon as I can get back up to the lake. I'll try to document what I find photographically to share with you folks. My guess is, I cracked the...

Yet another leak story/question

Some very interesting threads about leaks. Sorry about your misadventure Fran. My leak story: 1996 Mac26X, this last weekend spent three days and two nights on the water, mostly at anchor in a nice romantic cove with my wife; very little sailing, mostly motoring due to poor winds. Returned to ramp m...
