Re: Back on the water again, finally.......off to the Bahama

Speaking of the Bahamas, I came across another account by two Romanian fellows who sail to the Bahamas in their 26X. I know Chinook's account is referenced and well known but I haven't seen this one ever mentioned. It may very well be that their account is well known to most board members but it was...

Re: Lifts Florida Keys

The trailers are designed to launch the Macs in the water. Were you to find a marina with a boatyard and a sling, the cost would be prohibitive. Meaning you'd be more likely paying anywhere between $500 to $1000 to launch and recover your boat. The few minutes the trailer is actually in the water is...

Re: 4 Furlers Mac 26M

Did see a YouTube video of a 26M in SF bay in a 45 knot wind and a 45 degree heel. Two guys. One drinking a beer, the other wondering what he was doing out there. Don't have the link but you can Google it. Also, ran into three youngish Polish sailors in a Cape Charles, VA marina who claimed to routi...

Re: 4 Furlers Mac 26M

Great videos. How many knots did you have that day? That looked to be at least a 35 degree heel? The no hands no problem video was awesome.

Re: 4 Furlers Mac 26M

Not necessarily. Fever that is. I already have my hands full with just two sails. But the idea of more sail is intriguing. Seriously doubt at my present skill level that I would even know what to do with all the excess canvas. Perhaps on a longer and larger boat it would make more sense to me. Howev...

Re: 4 Furlers Mac 26M

That is one impressive looking bowsprit. How does it effect your sailing? What kinds of winds does your M now most favor? Can you run appreciably faster in lighter winds or is it better suited for 15+ winds? Great job.

Re: Pennekamp and Bahia Honda

Depends. We didn't. The water was warm enough but it was mostly cloudy while we we there making the swimming choice less inviting. Lots of other folks were splashing away particularly over at Canon beach. The water in the mooring field is only 5-6 feet deep and grass covered. No telling what might b...

Re: Pennekamp and Bahia Honda

Just spent a week in a ball in Pennekamp. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The dockmaster was helpful and friendly. The huge glassbottomed cat, the Spirit of Pennekamp, makes for interesting traveling either in or out of the windy south sound creek channel. Best to know their arrival and departure...

Re: Thinking about the Bahamas. . . Again

I like the Sony radio. Let me know if you get it working. I agree about weather. I want to know as much as possible. I've already bought the 15# manson so I'll just have to go with it. Up until now I've been very happy with the Fortress anchor. Between the two I should sleep soundly. Presently I'm c...

Thinking about the Bahamas. . . Again

Swaying on a Pennekamp State Park mooring ball, my wife and I got to thinking about making a first time Bahama crossing in April. I know its a bit early but one can never be too prepared for such an undertaking. Having read Chinook's account several times we feel enthused about the prospects of taki...

Re: plastimo collapsing water tanks

Victor, Thanks for passing on that information about the Lalizas tanks. That seems to be the best solution for my situation. I very much appreciate Chinooks' suggestion but given my fundamental lack of engineering skills installing a Lalizas tank under the V berth seems a task more in line with my a...

plastimo collapsing water tanks

Thinking about upcoming Bahamian trip. Want to add a Plastimo water tank to my existing 20 gallon supply. Still not sure where one might best store the bag then how best to transfer the contents to existing sink water container. Do people use a portable water pump to shift water around? Siphoning an...

Re: Raymarine EV-100 Wheel autopilot install

Having read several accounts of the benifits of installing a Raymarine Autopilot, I went ahead and bought one. Not being confident of my mechanical skills, I had the unit installed by a marina in Stuart, Florida. I downloaded and printed Matt's detailed installation instructions and gave them to the...

Re: Pennekamp and Bahia Honda

Anybody wanna meet up in the keys between now and Christmas ? Wife and I are in Stuart Florida at the moment having an auto pilot installed. We plan on launching the Nebula either at South Miami Dade or Pennekamp after Thanksgiving. Our current plan is to cruise the Keys until the end of January. H...

Middle Chessapeake/Rappahannock

Just rented a slip for three months at Regents Point Marina on the Rappahannock. In the event there are any Mac sailors in the area, Carol and I would enjoy meeting and hopefully doing some sailing together.
