Re: 1984 Mac leaking at the spreaders

If no one minds and I am not intruding... I am getting ready to make an offer on a '84 Mac 25. However, when I went to look at her this weekend it was right after a major down pour. I noticed that it was dripping under the wood trim on the port side (about opposite the outside rub rail). Current ow...

Re: Outhaul improvement

You are the man! Thanks. Even with measurements no less. We looked on our boom and no holes showing anyone ever moved it. How odd!

Re: Outhaul improvement

I'd say my outhaul cleat is close to mid boom. Swing your boom out like you would be running dead down wind, and place your clet so that you can easily get to it while safely in the cockpit ( or at least on the boat). I'll try and get a better picture of my boom this weekend. Thanks! I would love t...

Re: Outhaul improvement

"Does anyone know why the outhaul line is so long (about 4 feet)? I assume it is for reefing " The outhaul has nothing to do with reefing (at least on my boat). The outhaul is long, so it reaches to the midle of the boom in case you want to adjust it when on a point of sail with the boom ...

Re: Outhaul improvement

Thanks! That is exactly what I wanted to see. Should be easy to do compared to most projects. That is a very nice backstay setup! One problem I realize now reading the other posts is part of the problem. Someone cut off most of our outhaul and it is only about a foot long! We were planning on replac...

Re: pics of traveler in venture 21??? anyone got one

We just bought a 25 and are planning on putting a traveler aft of the companionway. It won't be able to be long unless we span the benches and build up a support (which we may do). The advantage will be that you can change the angle of attack of the mainsheet allowing you to spill wind by opening th...

Outhaul improvement

Hi all! We will be replacing our main this winter and I was thinking of going loose footed. But, the outhaul on our boat is nothing more than a cleat with a short line. Has anyone ever refitted a more adjustable outhaul? I was considering running one on a block at the end of the boom, then to a clea...

Re: V22 pop top

I would love to see some examples of this as well. We figured out the "easiest" way on our 25, but it is almost dangerous if it got away from you.

Re: Leading Halyards Aft

This is mine, before I bought it actually. The main halyard rope clutch is on the starboard side, but for reasons beyond me, they aimed it overboard instead of at the single cheek block (middle arrow) which turns the halyard toward the turning block at the mast base. The other end is aimed right at...

Re: Leading Halyards Aft

The plan as outlined sounds typical, but unless you have to get around something, you don't need the fairleads in front of the clutches. They have a SS flared opening, and will do their own fairleading (is that a word? :D ). Edit: If you aim the clutches at the deck organizers correctly, there won'...

Leading Halyards Aft

One of our first projects on our 25 will be to make the boat easily singlehanded. Our thoughts are to add a DIY curler, a traveler at the companionway, and to bring the halyards back to the cockpit. One this final one I was hoping to see what folks have done as far as line handling. I am thinking a ...

Re: Howdy everyone!

Thanks! Not a tarp but instead an inflatable kayak and that black is the bottom. It is acting as our "tender" for now. Mostly our 4 year old likes to go on little side trips paddling around while we are at anchor. We moved here from Colorado and loved it. Check out Blue Mesa Res. Largest l...

Re: Backstay question

Our solution is going to be a traveler mounted in front of the companionway. We both prefer that setup and don't mind the obstruction and it can be moved over to one side while on the hook. On the subject of an adjustable backstay that may be in our later future when I replace standing rigging. I li...

Re: Backstay question

I agree with HaminX. I split the backstay on Freedom and put blocks on to adjust. It works great and you won't hit your tiller on the backstay. Just A thot. That is an interesting idea. I hate hitting the tiller constantly on the stay. My wife wants to clear out the entire stern of all the mess as ...

Re: Howdy everyone!

Looks brand new. Congrats. I live in Southern Nevada. What are those green things on the shore behind your yatch? :) They are an odd beast that shows up for only about 5 months a year, then everything goes strangely white and quiet for the next 7. All joking aside, we are already getting our first ...
