I went to Avalon from San Pedro several years back and had a similar bad experience on my way back with my old 26X. Starting out, the winds were 10-15knots and things were looking like it was going to be a fun sail with the full genoa and mainsail. When the wind picked up to above 15knots, I reefed ...

Just when all of us can breathe a sigh of relief for New Orleans people, such as Mike, another even more devastating problem occurs. Apparently, a two block long levee break has occurred in one of the canals in the north section of the city. Water is now rising at the rate of up to a foot/hour in th...

At this point, it looks as if Katrina is weakening alittle bit with top winds now at 160mph and the satellite imagery looking less impressive. Hopefully, this trend will continue for all of the people in its direct path.....my thoughts are with them. Unfortunately, all of us will probably feel the i...

In bringing this thread entirely back to the original subject, , I converted my anchorlight over to be LED to save some amperage even though I have a three battery system. If you up for a custom/fabrication job you can do the following: Go to www.superbrightleds.com and check out their line o...

To test the oil pressure, you will need to remove the sensor and find a fitting with the same threads so that you can attach a pressure guage to it. A good oil pressure in general will be about 40psi +/- 10psi at 2500rpm and at least 10psi at idle, but you might want to hunt down the specs for the H...

The only LED you should hopefully see on a Honda is the green one that indicates you have good oil pressure. Obviously, that one will only light up when the engine is running along with a functional pressure oil system. If you don't see it, that's a problem (you have to be in a situation where there...

When I had my 26X with a Honda BF50, the measured transom wedge needed to make the cavitation plate parallel to the hull bottom was somewhere in the 10-15 degree range. The transom wedge that I eventually fabricated for that boat was about 20 degrees of induced tuck. Motoring at the 10-15 degrees of...

So, a question I have is do you use the choke when you're starting it after an hour cool down? If not, I would suggest to try that and get ready to quickly open the choke once the engine fires over so you don't flood the engine. Also, feel free to try my carb cleaner procedure I posted about recentl...

All good feedback and concerns which I will respond to. craiglaforce: By the time the carb cleaner is in the cylinders, it is finely atomized as a fuel/air mixture which I strongly believe wouldn't be capable to remove the oil coating from the metal surfaces. Also due to some residual gasoline in th...

Tom, You are welcome! 8) I've noted how much time and money it takes to fix this problem and tried to come up with an alternative for people here. (This doesn't even take into account a rip-off Honda repair center like JeffS' Woods situation!) It's problably not a 100% guaranteed fix, especially if ...

Anybody have a spare Honda prop for sale?
As maybe some of you know, I recently converted my Honda BF40 to have the power output and rpm range as a BF50. So my existing Michigan Wheel aluminum 3x12x11 prop is out of the optimal RPM range at around 5000rpm. Also, I have extensively searched the prop recommendations on this board as I feel as...
