Re: Top speed performance issues etc

Many thanks for the reply, all the info i have gathered from the other forum topics and also the service manual suggest the ft50 get yamaha should have a 14 x 11 prop not the 13 5/8 x 13 which it currently has, several people have reported that with the 13 pitch they get 4500rpm max and 10 kn max (s...

Re: Top speed performance issues etc

Thanks Jim, I have just joined the owners association and hope to meet up with some other owners. I am moored in christchurch river (Avon) and there are 2 others Macs moored near me so must try and meet the owners! Re the prop issue.... I have just looked up in the service manual and the prop i have...

Re: Top speed performance issues etc

Thanks Jim - looks fun in your video. I will give it a try in the summer. I live on the southcoat of England and the Solent is notorious so I have to be a bit careful as the weather can whip up very quickly. Figured out what BF means but it appears its a Mercury term so not sure if it applies to my ...

Re: Top speed performance issues etc

Thanks for all the replies - lots to think about. I have emailed the previous owner to see what he used to get, i guess it could be prop size holding the revs back due to load. re empty tanks, the manual clearly states the tank should be full as there is a risk of capsize so i am concerned about emp...

Re: Top speed performance issues etc

Welcome to the board... Nose heavy ? These boats are usually aft heavy.. 4500 RPM @ WOT? Well short of MSMPS of about 5800 RPM IIRC If you would add to your profile what year your boat is and which Yamaha you have it will help things a lot when trying to give answers.. As You see I have an 05 Merc ...

Top speed performance issues etc

Hi there, I hope someone might be able to shed some light on some performance issues I am having with my Mac 26M. I put her back in the water yesterday after the winter layup and this is my first experience with the mac as I bought it in December 2011, engine was serviced by me, new oils and filter,...

Re: Swing Mooring and bow cleats

Gavman, I'm a newbie too but have been lurking on this site for a few months. I kept my X on a swinging mooring in Poole Harbour all last year and simply looped the main chain through the bow roller and round both cleats then padlocked the chain to one of the cleats. No problems with it all year. M...

Re: Swing Mooring and bow cleats

GAV, I have 12' of 1/2 chain attached to a helix anchor on one end and then attached to a 5/8th swivel shackle in which a split 15' worth of (halfed) 5/8th black 3 strand rope (in a bridle) is finally attached to both my bow cleats. She (FINS UP) has been on that mooring set-up in 3'-4' of water in...

I was thinking that might be an option - is it strong enough? Cheers Gavin

Re: Swing Mooring and bow cleats

Many thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I am concerned about using rope in Poole Harbour as my previous boat (westerly centaur) ate through a bridle in a week and only the chain stopped her floating off. I was lucky to spend a hour on the harbour masters rib when he was inspecting the PHC...

Swing Mooring and bow cleats

Hi There, I am a newbie to the site and just about to take ownership of my MacGregor 26M. I have a swing mooring in Poole, Dorset, UK and I was wondering if anyone else keeps their boat on a swing mooring and how they manage with the 2 small cleats on the bow. I have a riser chain that needs to be s...
