Are the mods searchable? Seems like there was a great discussion before with photos but the old way of searching is soooo slow.

Re: Where do use/store your generator?
Hello Three Gypsies: Please excuse my butting in on an interesting topic but I've been trying to reach you to get a photo of your hard top. My 26X is also a trawler. Can you provide a link to any photos already posted? I was unsuccessful using the search feature. Thanks and please continue the conve...

Re: tired of polishing the Coon stripes
The 26X is such a beautiful boat without them. I'm thinking of including that in my modification list.

Re: How do cruisers wash their clothes?
A toilet plunger(new) and five gallon plastic bucket worked really well on my year long retirement houseboat cruise. Here's a link to the proof.

Minn Kota Power Up (tilt/trim unit) DOA
Finally getting back to the trawlerization of my 2000 26X. Looks like the Johnson 25 hp in place will run fine. That means, I can use my almost new Johnson 15 hp for auxillary on a starboard lift mount. However, push button tilt and trim on the primary motor would be so nice in the shallow waters wh...

Re: Tire Pressure
Anyone have 2 spare tire carriers mounted on a single axle trailer for a "worst case senario" on long trips? Also, two of them might be arranged to help center the boat as it goes on the trailer with proper fendering.

Re: Mac Trawler....
This is exactly what I'm doing. I've had many boats, some large houseboats, but my interest now is comfort and convenience, fuel efficiency and trailerability. I sold the sails and rigging to an X owner in Florida so there's no waste there. I don't want to re-engineer the boat so I've decided to lea...

Re: MacGregor 26X for Mississippi River Use
Correction in my earlier post: The farthest I went between gas stops was about 400 miles on the lower Mississippi River (not 40.) My fuel conservation approach of going with the flow prevented me from buying the minimum for fuel delivery at Vicksberg, Mississippi. This part is extremely industrial a...

Re: MacGregor 26X for Mississippi River Use
I did the 2,000 mile "southern loop" beginning and ending in Little Rock (Arkansas) in 2002 in a 36' Gibson houseboat with a 135 hp 4 cylinder Volvo. I spent 12 years equipping the houseboat for distance cruising. I spent almost a year out and it was a great adventure averaging 4 mpg inclu...

Re: Anyone recognise this puppy
Skipper2C: That's an original Mac 26X repaint scheme where the classic black stripe has been removed to emphasis the cabin and hull design. Very nice IMHO. Tempting down here in Arkansas on my 26x redesign where dark areas of the cabin attract unwanted heat. I wonder if anyone on this forum has trie...

Re: Aft berth liner and blister job on 26X
Wow! I've missed this thread for a while and found lots of interesting ideas and opinions, some very useful and (of course) a few without much experience with the subject of osmosis. In 1993, I ordered a new 12 x 36 Gipson houseboat from the factory and had a proper bottom job done before splashing ...

Aft berth liner and blister job on 26X
I would appreciate discussion on this issue but I buried my prior appeal in a lengthy post on another subject so would like to try again. My 2000 26X has the thin interior liner under the cockpit. Even crawling carefully, I'm afraid I'm going to break it. It already has one crack around an opening. ...

Re: Value of 26X Rigging and Sails
Howie: The buyer of my sailing equipment is interested in selling his old mast so he'll be contacting you. Ken: I came down to $1,200 for the package of sailing equipment. I think he got a good deal but that was intended. He's driving almost 700 miles towing his boat so I thought that would offset h...

Re: Value of 26X Rigging and Sails
I don't doubt that my trawler conversion will devalue the boat a great deal, maybe by 2/3? However, at my age, resale value is not a major consideration. In all likelyhood, the boat will outlive me and I have no kids. Otherwise, I would not spend $20,000 to equip a $10,000 boat. That won't pay for a...
