Re: Mainsail sheet
Ok, I'm with you. My boat doesn't have the grab rail either, just the eye strap screwed into the pedestal, and it works fine. Just be careful when jibing, uncontrolled it puts a lot of stress on the pedestal and eye strap. Th grab rail would be nice, if not too expensive I may buy one, mainly to hel...

Re: Power Without Ballast
I have been wondering the same thing! by any chance does your motor alarm out while @ WOT and fully ballasted??? I recently purchased a 12v water pump to empty my ballast while sitting still on the water, so as not to take any chances with a partial ballast while moving....(huge yachts seem to appe...

Re: Mainsail sheet
Just to be clear, is that pic your boat, or another one showing that metal clip? In other words, you're saying yours does not have that metal clip on the Helm bulkhead? The clip should definitely be there. That's where the main sheet block attaches.

X Mast Raising Block Line Exit Angle
I was working on my '99 X furler the other day (turned out to be bound up around the cup area, lubrication seems to have solved this) and to be safe I rigged the mast raising system in case I inadvertently (or advertently) caused a forestay issue. I don't know why I hadn't noticed this when I've rig...

Re: Roller Furler Friction
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look at all those things. One thing I will say is I don't think it's related to the fuller line in the drum, it's stiff at both ends of travel all the time regardless of line wound into the drum. To unfurl, for example, I'd have to use a winch on the sheet to g...

Roller Furler Friction
Any tips on troubleshooting a very stiff roller furler? All the time I've had the boat the furler has been very hard to extend and retract. In fact I've broken the line that furls the genoa, preparing to replace that. To extend or retract I've now gotten into the habit of going up and extending/retr...

Re: Finally got the 26X on the water, first time!!
Reading this with interest, on my 99X I have been just dropping the rudders and not securing them in the down position. The rudder line does dangle which is a cause for concern but I didn't know I should be pulling and securing the slack. I thought normal operation was to not secure down so they wou...

Re: First Mods?
RJG, details on the LED anchor light? Did you put it atop the mast? I have a 99 X and am leery of all the issues people have had running wires up the mast. I think although not totally legal (makes it partially illegal?) I can live with a battery powered light on a stick that I can attach high on th...

Re: Floating VHF Radio Saves The Day!
Wondering people's thoughts on handheld vs conventional radio. My "new" X has no radio, I was considering installing one, but the handheld idea makes an awful lot of sense, probably a little cheaper, no installation and hopefully more available in case of emergency. Use would be mainly inl...

Re: Special trick involved in Nissan/Tohatsu impeller change?
I'm interested to hear how this goes too. Are either of the two brands of aftermarket manuals for the Nissan sufficient to describe the impeller change? I'm mechanically well inclined but have no experience with outboards. I had my "new" 99 X on the water two days and the impeller failed. ...

Spring Line Length
How long should my spring lines be on a 26X? First time out and I bought two 25' docking lines, but my slip cleats are right about 26' apart, and I can't reach the opposite cleat on the boat. So for tonite I attached the forward spring line to the jib uh... friction holder thingy (still learning obv...

Re: 26X Table Cushion
Terrific, thanks folks. It didn't occur to me to use the seat backs, makes total sense. Hopefully I'd have figured it out eventually, but that's what the forum is here for!

26X Table Cushion
I just bought a 99 26X and just realized there's no cushion for the cockpit table when it's stowed to create a berth. Is this normally supplied? Any idea where I could purchase one? My wife hates the stock interior covers also, I've seen discussions of replacement Softop covers but they seem to be d...
