Re: Another Chesapeake Adventure...Another Mishap

Jim, Be careful not to hurt your shoulder again. I dislocated my shoulder multiple times practicing karate. Did not care for my shoulder. It got worse and progressively harder to put back in it's joint. And you are right IT HURTS!!! Because of not taking care of it, it took 14 years to heal. Do ever...

Re: Chesapeakers

On fuel management....you range should be 1/3 of you carried fuel capacity. 1/3 out , 1/3 back and 1/3 in reserve. Rough seas can easily double your fuel use, so you need more reserve capacity than in a car. Most outboards run increasingly more efficiently at lower rpm, as much as doubling mpg, so ...

Re: Chesapeakers

I'm on Kent Island. Just across the bay from Annapolis. I'm definitely up for a Chesapeake gathering as well. I have my Mainsail at Doyle Annapolis at the moment getting sliders, a reef, and a clew repair, But it should be done in a couple of weeks. C130 King, I think we work in the same building. ...

Re: Chesapeakers

Robert, he's talking about Barnegat Light, NJ . It's on the coast, north of Atlantic City - indeed, about half-way up NJ's coast. And I don't think there's an easy way to get from there to the inner Chesapeake very easily on the inter-coastal. Yes, Robert. There is a bay there, Barnegat Bay. It is ...

Re: Chesapeakers

Just make sure you are topped off before getting underway. And if your heading out in one direction, and returning to the same port without a pit stop, don't go to far away as to deplete one tank completely, you might not have enough fuel to get back. On our boat we have a 6.5 and a 7.5 tank. If ju...

Re: Chesapeakers

July on the Chesapeake can be hot and windless days. My advise,,, make sure you have plenty of fuel :D ..I'm sure the water will be full of boats.

Not too enticing... But thanks. At least now I know I need plenty of fuel. :?

Re: ASA101 / 103 certification

Just curious. How many of you have gotten an ASA 101 or 103 certification. I've spoken with a friend of mine who just completed his ASA 101. After telling him about what I was planning on doing with my new boat he said that I know more of the terminology and theory than he came out of the course wi...

Re: Chesapeakers

Last Saturday I was out with my wife without the kids for the first time. We had a great sail to the mouth of the South River and then back to the Western River for a drink, when we took the sails down to start the engine; the engine had other plans for us. It simply refused to start. After safely ...

Re: Puerto Rico To BVI

[*Well, you buy a USB GPS receiver peripheral for the laptop ($50), and there are a number of Mac compatible applications, yes. I will say that it's nowhere near as convenient as a chartplotter. I fix computers for a living, I use a Mac as my primary computer, I have an iPod and an iPhone, and a US...

Re: Puerto Rico To BVI

Does the laptop based chart plotter use it's own satellite connection like a dedicated chart plotter/GPS? Is it Mac-compatible or just for PC's.

Thanks,

Omar

Re: Chesapeakers

I guess you are right. It's likely there may be some differences between the 2003 & 2005 pedestals. There is a very thick plywood (or something like that) in the fiberglass of the 2003 right at the opening for the pinion. Anyways, the boat was finished today 8) Can hardly wait! Any advice regard...

Re: Puerto Rico To BVI

Thanks Jmmy, I'll be getting the anchor alarm app. I already got iNavX. It's kind of cool. You are right Jimmy. iPads are usually used as back ups to dedicated GPS and chart plotters, and charts. I am wondering if any of you guys know about a reliable and cost effective dedicated GPS that can wirele...

Re: Puerto Rico To BVI

What is the deal with the iPod and the GPS? Can you tell me more about it? I am planning to use an iPad so if there is a GPS that can work with it when there is no cell phone service that would be great to know... Can you tell me more about that?

Thanks,
Omar
