sail size question (X)
How do you tell what size genoa is on the boat? Mine is on an auto-furler, and when fully deployed and cranked as tight as makes sense it comes to the SS railing where the life-line "pelican" hooks up...on this boat that is at the forward end of the cockpit.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: First Family Trip Out: Disaster
When you do put the sales up, have the mainsheet loose so the boom can go out to one side. This will prevent the main from catching too much wind right off the bat and startling you. As you're ready to power up, pull in the mainsheet until the boat is at a comfortable 20 degree heel and then stop ....

Re: Roller furling lines length?
Seems like two different "lines" of thought. Jib sheets at 45 or so yields 23' out each side and the Roller Furling line at 23-26' to set-out and retreive the sail. (or is it just too early for me to get it)

I wish mine looked that clean!
You should have a lot of fun...and you can keep the first mate if you never yell because you are "excited". I also keep mine away from the ramp..in or out..they just make her too crazy after a few little mishaps with a much larger boat..

auto pilot recall...
At the Portland boat show I was asking for the best to get for our boat and was told the Raymarine (sport) but a little checking found this: Raymarine Sport Drive Safety Recall As customer safety is of paramount importance to Raymarine, we have decided to initiate a voluntary recall of this product....

3hrs and 15 gals of fuel not in my budget for every weekend fun You would have to be anchored for 2 of those hours. :? We got rid of a Bayliner 2855 with a 7.? engine...the boat was very comfortable and seaworthy...but I probably would have kept it if I could burn 5 gal per hour. On a good day, no ...

Or store all the gear in a mouse proof place for a few years and include it when you sell the boat...not everyone wants this hull as cruiser only. There was/is a guy in Washington (State), Spanway, I think, that was trying to build a little business doing just this (stripping off the sailing aspect ...

Re: Whisker pole -- How long.
I found a 6-12 forespar at a local consignment for $75. It is virtually new but 1/2 price. I have been advised on this board that this is smaller than recommended but the bigger is alot more cash (over $300 as I recall) and much heavier/larger. I have only used it a few times but works great, easy t...

It sure looks like they are in trouble when over 20 degrees but having spent the afternoon at 25-30 in very steady winds and fair water I can say that it doesn't feel as goofy as it looks...and never felt at risk. (its the gusting stuff that has serious pucker factor for me still )

I am, more often than not, singlehanded (by choice) and planning some extended (2-3 week) trips next summer and am thinking that an Autopilot system would be a very worthwhile investment...so would radar but I'll wait on that. My questions are for those that have it: do you use it often or just some...
