Re: How Robust are the MacGregor Rudders?
Depends on who you ask. I would say the X seems to have pretty sturdy rudders and mounts. I have heard of them breaking. The M is a totally different story. I believe the rudder mounts on the M are the weakest part of the boat. Mine have spread apart allowing the rudder to wobble a fair bit. Think r...

Re: Hard top Dodger
Boat, Wow, you have spent a lot of time and thought on this. It looks good. You have addressed the issue with stepping the mast. Have you considered the view from behind the wheel? Would the shallow height and slope of the windows hinder being able to see through the "pilot house"? Or woul...

Re: Hard top Dodger
I like the idea of hard top dodger but how do you deal with raising and lowering the mast? I have measured on my :macm: and when the mast is lowered to the stern mast crutch, there is about 8” clearance above rear of sliding hatch. I see 3 options: 1. Mast lowers onto dodger. Requiring raising rear ...

Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?
I had one and loved it for a couple years then the clutch mechanism seized up. It worked well as an autopilot but became “Armstrong steering” when trying to manually steer. My wife could not steer the boat and I struggled. The squawking (of the wheel, not my wife) was also embarrassing around the ma...

Re: Replacement Trailer Axle for 2008 MacM
Gemini has been putting on weight over the years as we all seem to do. My original axle on 2010 aluminum trailer looked bowed under the weight so I replaced my stock axle with a 5200 lb axle. I had to replace everything from tires on down to higher specs. Six Robblees Seattle was great. I understand...

Re: Trailer Bearings Quandry
Just replaced a leaking inner bearing on 2010 trailer. I feel your pain. It took me several try's until I found a parts guy who could find something. He used the Service Information booklet that came with the boat. Seal Conversion Information Seal description. Trailer Buddy. NOK. CR. National 233-16...

Re: Canadian radio station license
Windchime, You are one of the fortunate ones?? There is no question for you regarding the Station License. As a Ham (radio qualifications not personality  ), you do not meet the exemption qualifications if you have your ham radio on board. You have the capability to access frequencies other th...

Re: Canadian radio station license
Even though you need the station license in US waters, apparently you don't need to use the assigned call sign as you have a choice according to the following quote from RBR-2 Technical Reqirements..... The operator of a ship station shall identify the station using: the call sign assigned by Indust...

Re: Canadian radio station license
I am glad to see that I am not the only one to have been baffled by this. Kevin, I see from the links you posted that the US requirements seem to be as messed up as the Canadian ones. I have read in the Canadian regulations that US pleasure craft do not need a station license in Canadian waters unle...

Canadian radio station license
I appeal to the wisdom of the group to settle this issue. According to the Canadian Power Squadron as stated in the June issue of Pacific Yachting Magazine "A radio station is not required for Canadian boaters in Canadian waters...however, you will need a Radio Station License if you plan to cr...

Re: Main Sail Cradle (MacStack) from Blue Water Yachts.
Yes the sail is loose footed with the bolt rope of the stack pack sliding into the boom. A slider (included) to attach the clew is attached to your outhaul line. Todd at BWY suggests the improved sailing characteristics of the loose footed system is probably counteracted by the effects of the Stackp...

Re: Main Sail Cradle (MacStack) from Blue Water Yachts.
I saw the Mac Stackpack on the BWY boat at the Seattle Boat Show last year and immediately ordered one. We have used it all summer on our :macm: and love it. Sail handling is so much easier. No more wrestling with all that fabric up on the deck. Now I just give a little tug on the downhaul and every...

Re: Mailsail Cover
Blue Water Yachts has a new combination sail pack and lazy jacks. It doesn't seem to be on their website yet. I bought one at the Seattle Boat Show and am very happy with the look and the new lazy jacks system. Contact them if you are interested.
