Re: Who makes a good spinnaker
Thanks Judy I saved your post for later re-reading later. Two quesitons: a) I have the "normal" assym spinnaker for the :macm: . What is the min and max windspeed? b) Whisker pole: How long has it to be for using with the Genoa? I guess it is not so nice to have too long things on board. ...

Re: Who makes a good spinnaker
Just curious of those of u all who use a spinnaker who makes a good affordable one with a sock.... I've noticed when on vacation I always pick the lightest days to go snorkeling in the keys which of course makes the water clarity good and swimming conditions/waves good but I hate the fact that the ...

Re: Roller furler purchase
if you own a trailerable sailboat, a furler with a plastic foil (tube) has one very important advantage over a furler with a metal foil : The plastic foil/tube is much less likely to be damaged when you're raising/lowering/trailering the mast. For the MacGregor 26M and X, the following furlers are t...

Re: Sails: sailcare.com or not?
I have used sail care in the past. They do a great job reconditioning sails. They will inspect, make any needed repairs, and nicely clean the sails to get them in really nice shape. They will even do some custom work like adding UV covers and such, on request. They have some patented system for rec...

Re: Donating 26X to Charity Question?
Could you give it to the church, take a write off for whatever you believe it's worth, and have the church sell it? You will know that the maximum amount of proceeds go to where it needs to go. Ray I have donated boats to non-profits and charities. I don't remember all the details of how it works, ...

Re: Black fuler Genoa
I always thought "I" was the distance down the front of mast from the jib halyard to the level of the main deck, why would we use the main halyard in a fraction rigged boat to measure for the jib? On a trailer sailer the easiest way with the mast down is to just measure from the jib halya...

Re: Black fuler Genoa
That's good information. Thanks to those who measured. So we can make the following conclusion: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/4prq7t3eno7txr7/26M_jib_with_luff_tape.jpg On the M, the flat-2D (geodesic) drawing shows the LP is 9.7" or 9.58'. That computes as 9.58/10.33 = 92.7% In the 3D sa...

Re: Black fuler Genoa
The exact same jib is used on the 26X as the 26M by the factory. The LP for the factory jib is 9.58 feet, when the edges are drawn in 2D (according to the geodesic edges). A real sail has draft built into it (3D shape). The LP is measured to include the curved of the draft, and would be a percent or...

Re: Black fuler Genoa
Here is the original factory drawing for a 26M jib Kadet's dimensions are shorter on the luff, longer on the leech and foot, and bigger in terms of area by 12 square feet. The LP is 3.39 meters (11.2'), so it's technically a 110%. To sheet to the cabin top decks, and to avoid hitting the shrouds whe...

Re: Black fuler Genoa
So is there a compromise .... 130% ??? You can fit a 100% or a 150%, and that's all. It's not possible to fit a 130% genoa on a Mac 26M or X unless you install custom fabricated genoa tracks, similar to what Highlander did. The jib is not a 110%, it's a 100%. And the tape is a #6 if you have a CDI ...

Re: Love My Heavy Sails
Last year I got a Hyde Cruising Genoa 150 - Challenge Hi Modulus 6.03 Dacron from Judy B. This year I got a Hyde Performance Main - 6.11 Challenge Warp-Drive Dacron from Judy B. My wind conditions are moderate on Lake Erie and usually run about 7-15MPH. These sails give me great performance in thes...

Re: Can I fly this?
It will fit, but it's a bit small. With the shorter foot, you may be best served by using the genoa fairleads rather than ratchet blocks from the deck cleats, which would be further aft. I would also add a second hound, about 18" higher than the forestay hound, though it is possible to fly it ...

Re: Which sails - A Hard decision
By the time you add shipping from thesailwarehouse.com, BWY is cheaper... at least from my research. Judy's sails are roughly $100-150 more from my quick research but the killer for me is the lead times. I understand it's expensive to have product just sitting on shelves though. My sails are less e...

Re: Which sails - A Hard decision
My problem is My partner may be going to Vancouver at Christmas, while she is there a thought was to possibly pick up some new sails as they are so much cheaper in the USA than here is Aus and I can get sails built by people that have experience in making Mac sails. Here lays the problem, BWY is ju...
