Re: Why Sailors Love to Hate the MacGregor 26
Re less: was it Capt. Blighe who held the record for most ocean miles in an open boat after he and his officers were put off the Bounty? Apparently he was a very skilled sailor, so sure, skill can probably make up for vessel deficiencies.

Re: Why Sailors Love to Hate the MacGregor 26
I cant post a comment on the youtube video since Im No longer signed up, but if I could this is what I would post. Mac owners say to me: Not afraid to go your own way, dont care what others think, and probably extensively research nearly everything they buy to make sure it works for their use. Did a...

Re: 26M north of Georgetown Bahamas
Too bad they raised the cruising fees over there. Id still like to go but its not worth 2000 dollars for a couple months. Plus fuel costs and with that setup that guy is doing a lot of motoring.

Cabin sole mod eval
This sums up my cabin sole redo this past fall. I did this while waiting for the new engine to be ordered. This job required grinding the gelcoat nonskid off the floor in the cabin. The floor had always been a little thin and had a small space under it, so it would noticeably flex and hit the more s...

Re: Engine downsize final thoughts
At 4.5 knots the motor is quieter. At hull speed WOT its a bit more noise, but I will hardly ever run it like that. In fact Id like to get an electric kicker so that i might hardly even ever use it at all. Id like to set that up to charge from its own solar panel.

Engine downsize final thoughts
Performance eval Its no 60 hp. The 20 hp with flat pitch four bladed prop. Low speed maneuvering is good. Decent reverse and turning. Better than expected. Top speed is hull speed for the boat. Gas consumption at low speed (4.5 knots) seems equal to the sixty. (10 mpg) The flat pitch is a drawback t...

Re: How much lead in the bottom =factory water Ballast
I did not end up doing this job. The stub keel is working well as is. I might add a flaired out bottom the next time i have the boat up on jack stands in a yard. The boat legit goes to weather with no board down and can even be tacked in many cases. Off the wind control is improved and i run her dow...

Re: Why Sailors Love to Hate the MacGregor 26
My boat goes to weather in four feet of water better than any other that I'm aware of except maybe a beach cat. And those dont have a place to sleep.

Re: Jacking boat off trailer bunks
Re: trailer corrosion It has white powder in most areas and a little very light pitting in some places. Its less of an issue where paint was spilled on the aluminum surface past. So I think I will just paint it when the boat is in the water, after lightly sanding it. Its not that difficult to lift t...

Jacking boat off trailer bunks
Hi everyone. It this operation (the way I am undertaking it in these pictures) harming the boat? Ive done this once before but i only did it for a few hours. This paint needs an overnight dry. I am going to be painting the boat yearly now. I would have liked to have the boat at a boatyard on stands,...

Re: (Which) Dinghy for the Mac?
The lengthwise two part version of this dinghy is an idea that I've had since I got the macgregor. It could be made very light if epoxy resin was employed. The current one tows very well at all speeds including planing speed. Its pretty heavy though since I used inexpensive resin which is not as str...

Re: A Shower Project in the 26X (Formerly titled “Proper wood to glass in”)
The shower and head install i did on my M was well worth the effort. The X does have a better-ish layout for this mod though.
