Re: Erie Canal Guide Book
We used the Skipper Bob guide as well as the NY Canal Guide and Active Captain when we were on the canal in September. You might also want to check out tug44.org Site. He has tons of pictures and lots of good info about the canal system. We throughly enjoyed our two weeks on the western end of the c...

West Erie Canal Launch and Storage
We are planning to cruise the western portion of the Erie Canal in September. Need someplace in the Tonawanda area to launch and leave the truck and trailer for a couple of weeks. Anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Question about floor in head on M model.
The problem is that under the shelf the hull starts to curve in towards the keel. You might be able to lower the shelf a little bit but you would also have to move the head closer to the center line of the boat. The purpose of the shelf is to provide a flat surface as close to the verticle part of t...

Re: Mast Gate
I took a hammer to mine and carefully closed the gate to about half its original size. Pretty easy and simple. I was worried about beating on my mast but then I thought of all the holes I had already drilled in the boat and said what the heck.

Really nice. the more I see it the more I like the interior of the X. Oh sh$t did I just say that :P My thought as well. :? I'm not a big fan of the sliding galley in the :macm: and the head room in the head... My next major mod will probably be a replacement of the galley with something similar to...

Getting ready to put LazyDayz back in the water :), but first I have to fix a couple things and I could use some help! 1. It appears I have a leak around my starboard chainplate. What is the best way to seal this thing? Is it OK to leave it in place and just caulk around it or should I remove it and...

Apparently no rocket scientists were on board.
We sailed under the Eggner's Ferry Bridge while on Kentucky Lake last summer. Just glad I'm not commuting over that bridge every day. That will now be a long detour.

Active Captain is a great free resource. I also picked up the Navionics app for my iphone. It has access to nautical charts and includes all the active captain markers. As an aside - Active Captain has just released another free iphone app - "Drag Queen" - an anchor alarm.

Re: Outboard size for Mac 26M
FWIW my used :macm: came with a Yamaha 50. After having used it for a year, I sometimes wish it had more hp. Best I can do is around 15 mph w/o ballast. On the other hand, I don't really need to go any faster and WOT just burns though the gas that much faster. It's also a lot noisier at speed. Most ...

Re: Installing Yamaha 60 hi thrust on 26m
I've got the Yamaha 50 on my :macm: . This is what the PO had installed: http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x450/jrhoagland/DSCN0741.jpg This is not what you want! Because the unit didn't fit in the pedestal the throttle cables run down the hose on the side and then out through the back. Very ugly ...

Lots of good stainless parts at a good price. Very happy with all my dealings with them.

Gary I think you might be just a little bit paranoid, but I wonder too why they didn't just call a local broker that had one sitting on the lot. :?: I would think they would have been glad to work a deal. I know my local broker had one a while back and I'm in the middle of the corn belt not sunny Ca...

Re: Ballast valve open or closed during storage on land?
My gate valve is currently open (I think!) but the next time I go out to the boat (backyard) I'm going to close it. If it hasn't dried out by now it's not going to and while I don't think any critters will crawl in there I'd rather not give them the opportunity.
