Re: Front Hatch - arm to hold it up?
We drilled a 1/8" hole on the lip of the hatch cover seat. Through this we ran a nylon cord then through a 6" 1/8" brass tube, then tied the cord end to the hatch hold down bolt. In use, open the hold down latch then slip the 6" tube above the hatch lip and onto the end of the ho...

Re: Hatch seals for a 1983 25'
We replace all our hatch seals using pipe insulation cut in half. The foam is closed celled so it will not soak up water. All hardware stores have the foam pipe insulation and it is easily cut lengthwise in half. Napa Auto contact cement worked fine and they are in good shape after 5 years.

Re: Venture 25 wanting to add boom vang.
It gets very hot at Clear Lake, so we sail with the pop-top up and a flat home-made Bimini extending 4 ft. back over the cockpit. This requires that the M25 boom vang not be used but allows it to be released and bungyed to above the boom base which kkeps it out of the way. We have over 5,000 gps tra...

Re: Macgregor cockpit cushions yes or no?
All cushions in the sun get really hot. We find it is much more comfortable to sit on pieces of high nap carpet on the cushions. The carpet allows air to circulate, keeping buns dry and cool.

Re: FURLER DRUM MOD - Back Stay Adjuster
Even though the Macs are fractional rigs, by loosening the back stay, it is then very easy to put the fore stay CDI or other pin in - try it you may like it - it works for me!

Making a Simple Boom Slide for a Mac 25

Re: No More Need for the Mac Trailer "Bump".
The bunker Glide-Ons are a slick plastic with diagonal ridges that help center the boat. They are built to over-lap the 6" bunker boards. The set includes four 4ft sections and they recommend that it is fine to leave some carpet between the Glide-Ons. Google "Tie-Down Engineering Bunk Glid...

No More Need for the Mac Trailer "Bump".
We recently put two 8 ft. plastic Glide-ons on our trailer bunkers and mounted a light duty trailer winch up high above the front V bumper. The high light duty winch hook and line goes above the V bumper so when it is used when loading it picks up the front of the boat and with the addition of the G...

26M companionway hatch - Solution
We store ours behind one of the up-right seat cushions. We put the long side down and near the top two paste-on tabs to keep it from rattling. At the top we put a bolt holding a rotating triangle that when dangling just keeps the companion-way steady. This makes a fast easy place to store the compan...

Re: Snap shackles on mainsheet block - Solution
We have had the problem of a shaking snap shackle coming loose. Our solution is to use a short piece if tubing that is just long enough that the shackle can be opened. When the shackle is close in place, slide the tubing down over the shackle mouth so that it can not open. Problem solved!

Re: Injured Admiral, a MacHero, The story must be told
The Dutchman boom break on my Mac 25 has been very helpful in keeping the boom in control. I keep the unit working at all times just for these unforeseeable accidents!

Re: MacGregor 25 - GPS Installation
On our Mac 25 we have a swing out console that my Magellan Meridian GPS sits on top of the marine VHF and the Humingbird depth sounder below. You can go below past the console but it can be swing clear back out of the way if you want. Since it is shaded by the slide hatch, all three units are easily...

Re: keel lateral play
I asked that question to Bill at MacGregor and he said that the keel hole diameter was about 11/16" so that the keel would slide sideways after tacking and that this allows the stress to be exerted above and below on the keel trunk not on the keel swing bolt. He said it was a mistake to rebuild...

Re: Macgregor Mast Lifting System
You can not buy the parts cheaper than the BWY parts and the system works great on my Mac 25. You will need to install two base bolts rings near the boat edge in line with the mast base for the baby stays to attach to. Since the mac 25 boat edges are lower than the mast base, you must allow the baby...

Re: keel lateral play
Bill, at Macgregors told me that Macgregor designed these swing keel trunks so that the keel would slide sideways. This allows the keel trunk to take the lateral load in two places. The hole through the keel is some 1/8" larger than the 5/8" keel bolt.
