Re: 26X nightmares to avoid
Congrats on the purchase, Al! I purchased a 1991 26S off of the Little Rock Craigslist in May of this year and have been very happy with my "new" boat. I have yet to sail it anywhere except for Greers Ferry Lake, but you said something that piqued my interest. I cross the Arkansas River ev...

Re: How much fraying around thimbles acceptable?
Thanks for the responses! I spoke with the PO last night and he confirmed that in his ten years with her the rigging had not been replaced. I, too, have heard the 10-12 year replacement suggestion and I think I'm going to go ahead replace the four shrouds and get a new turnbuckle for the frontstay, ...

How much fraying around thimbles acceptable?
Hi All! Let me start by saying that I love this forum! I have been researching Macs for the past couple of years and within the past month have found myself the proud owner of a 1991 Macgregor 26S. This forum has been an invaluable resource for me and I hope that some day I can give back. Our first ...

Re: 26s beats 2 J24s and 2 Precision 27s
That sounds awesome! If the deal goes through with the 26S I am looking at, it's going to be really exciting to see how my six year old enjoys sailing. The more I hear about this boat, the more I like it. Beat a J/24? Amazing!!

Re: 26S pre-purchase keel/hull inspection
If the boat has been in the water 6-7 years, you can expect to redo the grime and stuff built up below the water line. We owned a 26-S previously...not too much can go wrong with this boat...fairly easy to work on. Good to hear. I was planning on using a pressure washer for this task. Is this okay ...

Re: 26S pre-purchase keel/hull inspection
Matt, Thanks for the quick reply! I am accustomed to cleaning/replacing carburetors with my lawn/garden equipment and I'm actually looking forward to that maintenance, as I imagine it to be familiar. I appreciate the response. I don't know if I was this nervous about buying my house. I feel bad abou...

26S pre-purchase keel/hull inspection
Hi all! I have been lurking on the forums on this website for months, maybe years! I hope that you can share some experience with a quasi new sailor who has only handled a 14 foot Beneteau Wizz! A 26S as come up for sale locally and my "admiral" and I went for a pre-purchase survey yesterd...
